This is going to piss some people off but I'm being honest.

I only wear mine after I've been drinking. Normally it's buckled behind the seat to stop the stupid dinging noise.

I don't really care what people think...here or elsewhere...

What I love is those that are pro seatbelt laws and also in favor of not mandating motorcycle helmet laws...as if that makes any sense.

As for myself typically if I am doing quick jaunt down the street and know I am out of the car in a few minutes I don't bother...for longer trips I usually do just because the noise is annoying.

However in the past I rarely wore one...my old car it would lock up all the time and dig into my neck, the newer cars it isn't that bad.

Personally I think it should be up to the individuals and allowing police to pull over and ticket for that is pretty stupid, though I realize it has more to do with insurance rates and revinue generation than it does saving lives.

I know two people who purposely don't wear a seatbelt. The first is an excellent driver and has been in multiple serious crashes (cars and motorcycles). Once we were going quite fast in his car and he casually said "oh 100mph, I guess I could put it on" and casually reached over and buckled it. When I asked him why he doesn't wear one, he (jokingly?) tells me that he doesn't' want the darned thing wrapping around and tangling him in a crash or choking him.

The other is my new roommate, who is quite young and naive (to be polite). She was in a bad accident a few years and and walked away. She was not wearing a seatbelt so her explanation is that not having the belt saved her life. So why wear it? The annoying part (besides thed anger), is her car makes a beeping sound every minute to remind the driver to put on his/her belt. I had to endure the entire car ride with her (albeit, only 20 mins total) with the thing going off. She'd rather listen to it than wear a seatbelt.
show both of them this. this person was not wearing a seat belt.

Uh, you can be the best driver in the world, there are still millions of other terrible drivers. Just because you were in accidents doesn't mean it was your fault.

If you were good enough you would had avoided them in the majority of cases.

Yep so I must be one of the best drivers in the world according to OP cus I've never been in an accident.

When you are going 100mph and joke about it that also shows a reason.

I don't know a single person off the top of my head that doesn't.

It's 100% instinct for me to wear one as soon as I get into a car.

It feels weird to not have one on while the car is in motion.

Good for them,
they're working to remove themselves from the genepool. Statistically you're better off wearing it... and if you can't comprehend that little factoid, you probably shouldn't wear the belt.

Also whats the point of driving a car with 6 airbags if you fly right past them @ 50mph?

I won't move my car unless my passengers join me in buckling up. Although I've never had to insist on it with anyone riding with me, I do wait to hear the click before we're moving.

I know someone who lived because she was not wearing a seat belt. Truck hauling utility pole in front of her, pole came loose and went through windshield on drivers side. If she had a seat belt on, the pole would have went through the seat where her head was, instead she was able to get out the door. She did lose fingers though, her hand was still on the steering wheel she was using for support to get out. But even she wears a seat belt now.

Seatbelts on at all times FTW. I was parallel parking our Civic (crap rear view) last weekend, and almost decapitated myself with the power windows. I stuck my head out to see when I'd nail the car behind, and for some reason, I felt inclined to raise my window... Luckily, it didn't move and I caught it in time. If only I didn't take off my seatbelt, I wouldn't have been able to stick my head out😉. Darwin award nominee.

I think allowing officers to pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt is pretty stupid. Seems like a waste of time when they could be pulling over people who are speeding or driving recklessly.

Car insurance fees. Their idiotic, preventable deaths make our costs go up.

I didn't realize the police were responsible for reducing our insurance costs.

Do you think it's appropriate to call the cops when you see someone trying to hang themselves or jump off a bridge?

Are you going to attempt to relate suicide to one's lack of wearing a seatbelt? Or, rather, relate my response to both situations? I hope not, as that would be a very weak argument.

I actually don't know anyone who doesn't. It's just never a topic of discussion or debate here. Even all the rebel hippie stoners wear theirs.

i have had a boyfriend of a girl i was giving a ride say eh wouldnt put it on. i sat there and he started bitchign about me not moveing and he was going to be late. again i told him i don't m ove until everyone has seatbelts on. he said something about not putting it on. i said fine. get out of the car wich he did.

i just didnt understand what he was trying to prove.

My friend (no the same one in the OP) got a ticket for not having a belt last weekend. She drove 2 blocks down to her friend's house. LOL. I told her she can't really be angry because she broke the law and she knew it.

I was in a similar situation once, but the guy eventually put his seat belt on and I started to drive. A minute later he took his seat belt off. So, I made sure no one was behind me and hit the brakes hard.

He kept his seat belt on after that (in my car, at least).

I would have done the same thing. I'm not going to have some asshole in my car get me killed when he becomes a projectile in an accident.

Darwin @ Work.

Well of course - they added seatbelts to cars to attempt to kill as many drivers as possible.

The insurance wrecks I've seen with head imprints on the windshield are probably fakes, with the imprints there to show that the lamination on the windshield is doing its job.

Gotta love it.
Simple observation, and statistical analysis, shows that you're more likely to survive with a seatbelt on. But that evidence isn't enough. We need laws to convince people that dying in an attempt to spite basic science may not be in their best interests.

My stepfather's reason is that when it the precious seconds that you need to get out of the car to catch criminals as a police officer. I've always pointed out that he stopped being a cop about 25 years ago.
