Do you know anyone who does not wear a seatbelt?

I know two people who purposely don't wear a seatbelt. The first is an excellent driver and has been in multiple serious crashes (cars and motorcycles). Once we were going quite fast in his car and he casually said "oh 100mph, I guess I could put it on" and casually reached over and buckled it. When I asked him why he doesn't wear one, he (jokingly?) tells me that he doesn't' want the darned thing wrapping around and tangling him in a crash or choking him.

The other is my new roommate, who is quite young and naive (to be polite). She was in a bad accident a few years and and walked away. She was not wearing a seatbelt so her explanation is that not having the belt saved her life. So why wear it? The annoying part (besides the danger), is her car makes a beeping sound every minute to remind the driver to put on his/her belt. I had to endure the entire car ride with her (albeit, only 20 mins total) with the thing going off. She'd rather listen to it than wear a seatbelt.

You should find out how to turn that annoying thing off for her. On my tundra there was a procedure that involved doing some sort of sequence of actions that stops the dinging. Maybe she will be thankfull and give you a handjob next time you ride with her.

I usually wear mine.

Same with some Fords.

Or just buckle the belt behind you...

No need to talk her into wearing it. Don't interfere with evolution.

Some guy i know doesn't wear it because "i don't want to die in a fire when we crash"

You can buy an escape tool that has a blade to cut the seatbelt and a glass breaker to break the windows if you need to.

Stepsons girlfriend would never put hers on. They changed the law a few years back and the police can stop you now solely for not wearing a belt.

So she's driving without hers and gets pulled over for it. Stepson has a warrant out for failing to appear regarding child support and she's got a warrant on her for failing to appear on a car accident or something or another. They both get hauled to jail and the car gets towed.

She's had a change in her attitude in regards to wearing seat belts.

I think allowing officers to pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt is pretty stupid. Seems like a waste of time when they could be pulling over people who are speeding or driving recklessly.

And those who get pulled over for speeding say reckless drivers should be stopped instead...and they say to stop DUI's instead...and they say to chase murderers instead...

😛

Car insurance fees. Their idiotic, preventable deaths make our costs go up.

This is going to piss some people off but I'm being honest.

I only wear mine after I've been drinking. Normally it's buckled behind the seat to stop the stupid dinging noise.

It's survival of the fittest. The problem is that these people tend to reproduce before they die. Oh well. Nothing is perfect.

I could say the same about your choice to eat fast food, red meat, and drink high calorie sodas/alcohol.

I wear mine. No reason not to. Oh and I find it funny the op says that one guy is an excellent driver and he has been in multiple crashes. Obviously he's not good enough.

If you have been in multiple crashes then the person is not a excellent driver.

Remember seatbelts save lives, but also cause 98 percent of injuries.

Don't remember where this is from, but it was an accurate statistic and some point if not still.

Myself, I have a crazy habit of putting on my seatbelt, I can sit in a parked car to get something and buckle the belt from pure habit, and wonder why I can't reach.

Uh, you can be the best driver in the world, there are still millions of other terrible drivers. Just because you were in accidents doesn't mean it was your fault.

Bruised shoulder vs head through windshield?

If you were good enough you would had avoided them in the majority of cases.

Yep so I must be one of the best drivers in the world according to OP cus I've never been in an accident.

i also have some friends that have a friend that a friend of a friend would have died if they had worn their seatbelt, but instead they got "thrown free" from the car and the car exploded and if they had had their seatbelt on they would have died...

look at the statistics and decide for yourself whether to wear it. If it is the law to wear it in your state, wear it until you lobby long enough to change the law
