Do you honestly care what brand of electronics another person uses?

Do you honestly care what brand of electronics another person uses?

  • Yes, it bothers me

  • I don't care either way

  • Fancy electronic gizmos? What a waste of money.

Does your blood boil when someone says they own an Xbox instead of PS4? Do you have to hold your tongue when you see someone using a pair of Beats headphones or a Bose soundsystem? Do you feel the urge to rant when someone shows off their new AMD-powered Alienware desktop? Do you roll your eyes whenever you see a stranger with an iPhone even though you'll swear Android is just as good?

If so, why? Express your nerd rage here. I'm listening.

No. I found out a long time ago that being a fanboy for a company, product or service is a huge waste of time. Eventually that company, product or service will disappoint or blatantly screw you over and you'll find out the hard way that the loyalty only went one way.

Basically similar. I'm not a brand-loyal person.

I will, however, get justifiably pissed if somebody I care about got screwed.

Wow this is so true and well worded.

Absolutely. Anyone not using Apple = da loserz. It's what TV and interwebs has told me. It must be true.

It's perfectly fine to use Apple products, just don't buy them new. There are so many more rewarding bad habits to spend the extra cash on.

Not really but it does make me cringe seeing hordes of people walking around with $1500-2000 Macbook Pros knowing they're just using it to surf facebook and send emails.

I have almost no experience with OSX -- but just enough to know even that kind of use is vastly improved by the quality touchpad and scrolling behavior. They aren't pushing the hardware anywhere near its full potential...so what? It's still providing the best experience for what they do.

No but I do notice cell phone brands when out in public.

Apple and Samsung definitely dominate the average consumer market. Every now and then I'll notice an HTC M8, Note 3/4, Moto G or Nexus 5/6.

These are called peasants. I'm one of them!

Why do you care? This is your chance to vent.

I've spent enough time venting. When I see a person who owns expensive stuff with low value and high cost, I know they do not value money and so I treat them likewise. Why should I kill myself to save someone money when I know they're going to waste it?

There is an older episode of the Simpsons where someone, I think Lisa saves a fish and throws it into the ocean, only for it to get eaten. However I'd say that's a lot more useful than helping an apple user or just about anybody who have high priced low value things save money.

But why do you care what someone else enjoys if they're happy and aren't bothering you? Not everyone needs to penny pinch.

I thought I made it pretty clear that if you do not value your money why should you expect me to value your money? It's like when a parent who abuses/neglects their children on a regular basis yells at other people because they've been forced to ask their spawn/little monster that is trolling the store not to touch them, kick the back of their seat on an airplane, or do any other innumerable things they shouldn't be doing.

Sure, looking down on people who are pigs and wasteful with money/resources etc. is a form of elitism much like anything else but I don't care especially if I think it's for a good cause. Being elitist like because you're a vegan, you recycle or you volunteer is a good sort of elitism vs. being a voracious consumer, a money/resource waster, a gluttonous bastard, etc. (No I'm not a vegan nor do I volunteer but I do recycle... in case you're wondering)

Only if

a) they try to start an argument with me about why their ABC is better than my XYZ
b) my money is for whatever reason going into the purchase of said device and said device is far from the best choice for the cost

b) is the most important. Your money -> I don't care what you spend it on

I used to care so much about how people spent their money mostly because I see how 'poor' people are around me and how much they complain of suffering from not having enough money, etc. But all this 'caring' has made me feel numb like a social worker and making me care less and less. I've learned that there are lots of people out there that you cannot help nor save and that you should limit your energies to those who appreciate and can benefit from your help while ignoring everybody else.

This.

The only time anybody really cares is when it makes them feel insecure about whatever it is they chose. Period.

And that goes for pretty much everything that doesn't personally effect you.
