Do you honestly care what brand of electronics another person uses?

  • Yes, it bothers me

  • I don't care either way

  • Fancy electronic gizmos? What a waste of money.

Does your blood boil when someone says they own an Xbox instead of PS4? Do you have to hold your tongue when you see someone using a pair of Beats headphones or a Bose soundsystem? Do you feel the urge to rant when someone shows off their new AMD-powered Alienware desktop? Do you roll your eyes whenever you see a stranger with an iPhone even though you'll swear Android is just as good?

If so, why? Express your nerd rage here. I'm listening.

This is April 2015, right?
That one touches a nerve with me.
Alienware + AMD too?

Well android is a huge ecosystem and of course a few rogue apps can kill the battery life but that's true with iPhone as well. Most of the people I know with iPhones are basic users and they all complain about battery life.

But that's pretty much a universal complaint about smartphones.

You have to charge them every day, and even the heftiest battery will drain in 4-5 hours if you're using it heavily. (Like, to watch movies or play video games or something.)

Compared to my old charge-every-thursday dumbphone, it's a freaking travesty.

Well on an Android phone, assuming you can root and run your own software, I can get significantly improved battery life by limiting the clock speeds, disabling various background services, and using auto brightness w/LUX (most phones don't function this well in this regard). On my Amaze 4G, the battery is in pretty bad shape so I've limited the clock speeds to about 432mhz which is only just above the 384mhz idle speed. I choose 432mhz because it uses the same amount of voltage as 384mhz. The only time the clock speeds exceed that is when making a phone call, then it gets bumped up to 756mhz. If I had a new battery in the phone, I'd stick with the limit of 972mhz as it's plenty fast at that speed. The phone's stock max speed is 1.5ghz. I found a datasheet of the Qualcomm Scorpion CPU's specs and put the phone's CPU speeds and voltages into an excel file and computed it, figuring out when there are diminishing returns in performance vs voltage and found that 972mhz is the sweet spot.

As for why I have not purchased a new battery despite being stupid cheap, I keep telling myself that I'm going to upgrade this phone but I can't find a suitable replacement. I want a phone with similar specs to this phone but with a larger battery and wireless charging. It MUST come with removable battery and SD card slot. I also like the FM radio but not a requirement as it's difficult enough getting a phone with removable battery and SD card slot.

Also is there a way on the Galaxy S4/S5 phones to not so easily press the power button when in one's pocket?

This thread is giving me reason to develop a theory about smartphone users of all brand persuasions. The term douche nozzle is featured prominently in my budding theory.

It only bothers me if someone comes up to me and tries to show off their clearly inferior gadget like it's the greatest thing in the world.

Sorry, but your $99 Tracfone "smart phone" with a 3 1/2" screen running Android 2.3 is NOT as good as my new iPhone 6. Sorry, it just isn't.

No. HTC do not care that I own their phone. AMD do not care that I own their processor. Honestly after the point of actual purchase they do not want to deal with me because communicating with me after purchase is a cost to them. Why would I care about them after buying their product?

I'd bet that AMD is desperately trying to hold onto any PC customers they have left at this point. They have nothing left that can compete with a new Core i5 at this point, let alone an i7.
