Do you have a "server closet" or "communications closet" in your home or apt? PICS?

Inspired by another thread, I'm soliciting ideas here. This summer, I'm buying my first house. 🙂 About time, too.

Anyway, I want to build a server closet, at the very least. I.E. server(s), cable modem, patch panel, router, switch, etc.

If able, I'd REALLY like to build a complete Communications Closet. Phone, cable, computer distribution...all in one closet.

Do you have such a setup in your apt or home? I'd really like to see pics. 🙂 Don't say "oh, but it's just a cheesy little setup..you don't want to see it!" b/c I DO want to see it.

I may take an idea from you, one from her, one from him, etc and create my own thing out of it.

Thanks. 🙂

A door has since been mounted. Now I just need a bigger switch so all ports can be active at once.

That is really sweet!! It takes up no space at all! I like it. That's an RT314 you got there...I know b/c I have one. 😎 Awesome box.

Question: I dont' see a modem, and the input on the RT314 goes to the patch panel there...where is your internet signal coming from?

sorta, its the space under the stairs to the basement
my web cam doesn't have a long enough cord, so no pics

currently it houses

cable modem
switch
gateway/router/server
NAS
stuff

My cable modem sits on my desk since it needs to have the power cycled on it somewhat frequently.

I have 2 cat5 and one coax jack in almost every room of the house now 🙂

Ahh, ok...still not sure how you're setup is wired...you got the router...than that little switch and the patch panel. Can't quite figure out the topology there...but hey as long as it works for you. 🙂

Before I move a single piece of furniture into the house, I'll be wiring every room with both CAT5e (maybe CAT6 if it's affordable) and coax for the cable TV.

Gonna do it right. 🙂

I did not move a single peice of furniture putting these jacks in.
Dont buy the jacks from home-depot/lowes as they are very expensive there.

Cable modem plugs into the wall here and goes to the router. Second jack in this room is from the router.

My dad is the manager of a hotel so we have an onsite appartment there. I setup a broadband internet connection for the hotels office and about 50 rooms by fishing the wire and installing jacks and stuff, i put all the hardware equipment inside our "telephone room." I gotta get some pics of this room, the walls are packed with patch panels for telephone stuff, theres big mitel pbx servers, some cable stuff, dsl/networkin stuff, tons of wires, voicemail computer system...all kindsa weird stuff 😀 Hmm, mabey ill get some pics sometime and post em.

Anyway, I have a 266 running ics and a cable modem with a 10/100 switch in my basement, on a ledge. The computer was free so you can't beat that. I would take a picture of it, but its not a closet and you specifically said closets.

I don't know if this counts... we have a closet with a cable modem and a router, with cat5 running through the walls to other rooms.
