Do you have a "server closet" or "communications closet" in your home or apt? PICS?

I will try to find my dig cam this afternoon.

Basically I have a HP celly system as my server/router running clark connect. Just a tower and keyboard. I also have a small switch (5port) I just used the useless space under the stairs to the basement.

nothing so far, was a bit worried last summer, but it was ok, there is a reason for that blower 😉
live in iceland

I would show you my work setup, but then, I would have to kill you.

My home comm closet is more like a comm floor. The dining room is the Communications Hub of "The Sarge's" universe.

My next house will have a closet. I am tired of the gasps coming from visitors when they see the "dining room/comm floor"

I have a 286 running Freesco in my closet, with cat5 snaked to the various upsatirs bedrooms. I'm going wireless now, so that's all going into the garbage. The 20$ router served its purpose for the last 2 years.

dude, you need to buy one of those thumb-print scanners. then rig your closet doors to slide open after it scans your thumb-print.

that'd be bad-ass 😀

Thanks very much, everyone for the pics and ideas. Wireless is not for me, except for a laptop...I just can't see the sense of "not having a CAT5 wire going to this workstion" when you have 40 other wires going to it for video/mouse/kb/etc.

CZAR, legos? Dude...LEGOS? :Q I have heard of "low-budget" before, but man, you get "All Time Creative Use of Legos That Where Just Lying Around" Award! 😀

And yes, behind the desks in my bedroom is one helluva wire nest mess. I want to do away with that in the future by having a closet/attic/basement/central point for comm access. 🙂

i love the legos!!!

no closet but our web/email/storage server is in the basement.

runnning 2k3 rc2 which runs the website the pic is hosted on.

tower on the right has the p2 450 with 512 pc133 and 8 4.5gig scsi drives(behind the orange foam). left tower has 3 17 gig scsi drives..soon to be more.

there is also a ups behind it that keeps it running for maybe a minute. just enough to keep it up when the power blinks.

Is that phone a straight line to the warroom? 🙂

this summer I plan on buying one of these and running cat5 to every room in the house, rigging up wall plates, and the such, the throwing all my network stuff in there. Not yet though. I'd like to do the phone/cable distribution too, dunno how, though.

Yessir! That's exactly what I'll have in my closet, with all ports clearly labeled. I.E. "living room 1" "living room 2" "guest room 1" etc. 🙂 Will make life so much simpler than putting labels on patch cords.

Every room in my house has two cat5 wires running into it. Also it has one coaxial running into it, along with phone, and an intercom. It all runs into my closet which holds my cable modem, router, and 5 port switch. It also houses a board for our phones. I love my closet, it has everything. Sorry I have no digicam so I don't have any pictures.

I'd love to see a pic of this! I want to do a "Complete Comm Closet." Everything in one place.
