I am in more or less the same place.

When I was in Paris many years ago I went to hear an organ concert at Notre Dame Cathedral. Decided to go to Sunday service there to hear the great organ music.

The service starts and the priestly procession starts, with one priest twirling a pot of burning incense, another sprinkling holy water on the pews as they wnt by, the group got to the alter and proceeded around in circles in some (to me) unknown ritual. Got me thinking about Christianity and how Jesus said Thou shall not worship false icons. What was this group doing if not worshipping false icons and making a ritual out of superstitions.

Another one. Went to a Catholic wedding of a friend/colleague of my wife. The priest was the bride's older brother! The service begins and the brother/priest gives a 45 minute homily on how everybody but true Catholic believers will (more or less) burn in hell for their beliefs. Goes on to talk about Jesus love for everybody. Then he calls for Communion but gives a 15 speech on how nobody but baptised Catholics who are not fallen could receive Communion.

Not much organized religion in my household. We live the Golden Rule much better than most of the holy rollers we know, but do not attend services nor believe in any God.

I hope that there is, for you, not for myself though, i would like to just rest in nothingness.

I guess my question to you though is that are you insisting that you would be "resting" in nothingness, or that you would be conscious of that or that you would be just wiped from existance...I don't know if I necessarily believe in a "heaven" where you play poker with all of your friends, but rather a return to a collective of some sort...at least I hope but then again who really knows, we could all end up bowling, or would that be hell?

Yes, I do. Why you ask? I think it is because we all need something to believe in, and I think it is very important. Even though I'm not a great worker for my religion; I know that I can turn to it for help. It is also a guide on how to live my life and it can help you make decisions that you may have made wrong otherwise. I just love the thought of having a higher being watch over you and the thought of seeing you loved ones and him one day.
