Two questions:

1. Sometimes the air tube for the bubble bar gets lots of water in it, especially when I turn it off. The water seems to go all the way back to the air pump. Is this normal? Will it fry anything?

2. I was working on setting up the tank and dropped half of the lid into the water (twice). The water has been cloudy ever since. I let it sit for a day and it's getting better, but it's still mildly cloudy. Any ideas on why the lid would make the water cloudy and why the cloudiness wouldn't go away through filtration?

A1: You should setup so that the tube has a "curve" so that water doesn't go back into the air pump because that would be bad, unless the air pump is waterproof -- which has to be in-tank anyway...

A2: Did you rinse the lid or wash it with any cleansers? Your water might just be dirty and do a partial water change. Or use one of those drops to clear it up.

I have a small fish tank (about 6 gal.) with three comet goldfish -- Hannibal, Mary-Kate and Ashley. :D

ROFL!!

I happened to have an old one lying around, I figured I might as well put it to good use. But like someone else said, it will only last for a few hours at most, so it's not really essential. They had battery-powered filter/bubble things at the store for pretty cheap too.

Hey, not too bad a setup. I take it they're still doing well after this time? Layout isn't too bad and it fits the location nicely.

Been meaning to get back to this tread and post pics of my 29 gal fresh water planted tank.

Tank and canopy here. Exact same make you got, only I went for a canopy so I could attach a pair of 65 watt lights to it.

Here's the majority of my fish.

And a close up full shot.

Fishwise I have:
1 male beta
3 pearl gourami (2 female, 1 cowardly male)
4 otto catfish (little algae eaters. Since they have a nice size difference between them, I've names them [in increasing size] Little Boy, Trinity, Fat Man, The Czar.)
5 peppered cory cats (can't see them in the pictures. Little bottom feeders that hide amongst the plants)
8 zebra danios (formerly some really nice serpa tetras, but they didn't agree with the beta)
10 cardinal tetras

Plantwise:
Java fern
anubias nana
moneywort
ambulia
elodea
Rotala wallichii (red ambulia)
Ludwigia
dwarf hair grass
giant hair grass
Wisteria

Equipementwise:
Rena XP1 canister filter
Coralife turbotwist 3x uv sterilizer
hydor 200watt external heater
pinpoint ph controller
10lb CO2 tank with JBJ regulator and solenoid
130 watts of compact flourescent lighting, 6500k bulbs with reflectors
digital thermometer

That's the one thing I love about my fresh water; I can really have a lot of fish in it. I know it's overstocked, but that's intended. The fish fertilize the plants, thus the tank holds a constant 5 parts per million nitrate level by itself. All I ever have to add is iron.
