I LOLd at this exchange...

I actually find that I get more annoyed with non-vegetarians than they could ever possibly get with me. If I don't order meat when other people are around, or if it comes up some other way, all of the questions start. Why this? Why that?

I just mind my own business and have nothing to say on the subject to anyone, but a good percentage of people feel the need to preach to vegetarians, or play 20 questions trying to somehow trick us into realizing that our reasons for not eating meat are wrong, or that we're hypocrites.

Do you have pets?

Do you wear leather?

Do you blah blah blah... ?

How many polls have we seen on ATOT by vegetarians or vegans or people with certain meat restrictions in their diet complaining about those who don't have such restrictions? I haven't seen a single one, though I haven't done a search. On the other hand, this topic comes up at least once a month here.

Get over it. The preaching by vegetarians is in your mind, as every single vegetarian (or similar) person I've ever met has felt the same way I do, and they dread having to order food around people who don't know about their diet yet.

I agree. This thread is a perfect example. I'm guessing the OP got rejected by another girl and b/c she was a vegetarian, needs to rant.

The folks who get their panties in a bunch over vegetarians/vegans/etc are much worse.

Both of these.

I respect their decision, whether they're doing it because they don't like animals dying, or if they're doing it for health reasons. Though, I do think some of them are a little excessive such as not wanting to eat dairy products because it comes from an animal. But it's their life, if they're happy then good for them.

No, it's not in our minds. It may be a vocal minority, but it's highly annoying. If ordering food around other people is a chore, you need to find new friends. There's a wealth of great food out there with no meat. It's eating bad food and trying to pretend it isn't that's especially annoying.

<- omnivore, still mourning the loss of two awesome vegetarian restaurants when the recession hit.
<- still can't make as good of an uttapam as the Indian one

I don't agree with them but as long as they leave me alone it doesn't make any difference. I don't hate them.

Pretty much the same way as I view religious people.

A person being a vegetarian is like them having a certain religious belief or sexual orientation. I do not have a problem with any of their beliefs as long as it doesn't affect me.

I don't hate them, so long as they don't proselytize. When they get on their moral high horse, well, then I either leave the room (if I can) or just stare at them, wait til they're done, and then (in my best John Travolta voice) say, "Yeah, but bacon tastes good..."

no, but I dislike manlets with long hair that stroke their assault rifles behind their triple-locked apartment doors in Northern California.

I also have a problem with vegans.

i don't hate them but they are fuckin weird. i'm used to eating at least 10lbs of meat a week. no clue how someone could eat 0 meat.

I don't know why anyone would hate someone for what they eat. And I've personally never heard a vegetarian rant about food choices, unlike the OP.

If that was the case, then we won't even have this thread and responds.

But the reality is, they will always talk down to others because of their superior life style, with their illogical concept.🙄

I know a couple of Jainists that are in no way condescending, mean, rude, superior or in anyway belittling/superior regarding their vegan-ism. One has even purchased a chicken-lunch for me on a repeated basis.

Not at all. Being vegetarian is fine by me. Its probably healthier for you if you do it right and its a more sustainable way to live.

Now.... if they're smug assholes about it.... that's a different story.

Same here. I love meat too much to ever give it up, but I've cut back on the amount that I eat and I know that Americans as a whole eat unnaturally large amounts of meat. My girlfriend is a semi-vegetarian (no meat, does eat fish though) and it doesn't bug me at all. Probably improves my own eating habits to be honest.

I have found that a huge portion of vegans are some of the most obnoxious, sanctimonious pricks that you can find. The ones who try to feed their cats a vegan diet deserve to be punched in the face. Most regular vegetarians aren't preachy about it though.
