But the streets are clean. Hey, have some Chili Crabs for me at Newton Circus. I seriously love those. Best food ever made.

Singapore has this issue , but I heard it was lifted, and can now be sold by chemists or something weird like that.

nicotine gum can be sold by pharmacists (spelling?)

Rumsfeld served in the Eisenhower admin starting in 1957. 40+ years

that made them "in power"?

big government companies' bad investments. The mass media tries to paint a good picture by using "average annual returns %" to make the population think all is well. But "average" means nothing...you can have an impressive "average return" and yet not make a single cent.

falling real wages

citizens who criticize the establishment are supposed to provide solutions, or join an opposition political party, else they'll be dismissed as mere whiners. Makes you wonder why those in the establishment even bother to turn up for work, if they expect others to give solutions to them on a silver platter.

workers here are expected to make a compulsory monthly contribution to a retirement fund. ~10 years ago, I think rules were changed to allow people to use the money to invest. the dictator's brother runs a company that provides brokerage services *cough cough*. it was said that his brother ran into financial trouble at that time and the amendment was to build up his brother's finances.

and did i mention that our mental hospital is used as a concentration camp?

Just remember that there can also be issues with using free speech on sites that are not country approved. And, it is the one country that has the tech savvy to monitor such.

anyone who is determined to voice out and criticize the establishment will be bankrupted and labelled as hooligans by the not-so-imparticial mass media. Here, criticism is ruled as "defamation" by the judiciary. In the past, they'd be packed off to secret police detention barracks instead of being *just* bankrupted though.

it is next to impossible to start up an alternative media due to oppressive laws. The 2 main mass media companies are government-linked.

elections are a sham.

where i live, less than 5% of the people are hanging out their flags for national day ("independence day" in american terms :) )

guess which country i live in :)

From the way you describe things I'd be surprised if we hear from you after today. I hope this rant was worth it.

relax.

we do have an alternative, non-moderated forum where we can bitch, whine, put back what the mass media left out and expose their dirty deeds. The establishment has yet not deemed it necessary to block internet access to that forum.

as far as i can tell, the only people who will get into trouble are those who are willing to stake everything they've got in order to bring about changes.
