to the OP saying his rapper is better than bob dylan...you know he also played guitar, harmonica, and the tambourine...at the same time...while singing...that, my friend, is talent
Uh how the hell is he gonna play all of those at the same time? Thats physically impossible.

Of course you can't. You have never seen one man bands make music? Ever heard of the band Burzum? It's a one man band. Varg Vikernes played every instrument, guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, etc. He recorded everything separately, then put it all together.

Please tell me when Chris Cornell stops whining about the same things he did when he was 18.

there's a huge difference between soundgarden's early albums and their last few.. hell, listen to badmotorfinger and then to down on the upside - huge difference.

not to mention temple of the dog which is probably my next favorite band

guitar in his hands, harmonica hanging around his neck, tambourine on his foot

obviously he doesn't sing and do the harmonica at the same time, he alternates with those

look up some videos of him, you will be amazed, i promise

Too much hate and ignorance against rap. What you see on the TV and what you hear on the radio is just a small fraction of the 'rap' category. However, if that is all you look at, it is still one of the biggest and most popular genres out there right now. It could not become so big if it really was crap. White America loves it and is eating it up. Comparing lyrics of a rapper to someone like Bob Dylan is stupid because that is not all of what defines music. Bob Dylan may have better lyrics than one rapper, but that doesn't mean there aren't other rappers who have better lyrics than Dylan. AT really hates rap, I will never really understand why, but whatever... it is still a dominant genre.

While I generally despise mainstream rap, there are some good mixed with the bad. Same is true of any genre of music.

Here are some prog rock lyrics for you to digest:

Dream Theater - Glass Prison

I. REFLECTION

Cunning, Baffling, Powerful
Been beaten to a pulp
Vigorous, Irresistable
Sick and tired and laid low
Dominating, Invincible
Black-out, loss of control
Overwhelming, Unquenchable
I'm powerless, have to let go

I can't escape it
It leaves me frail and worn
Can no longer take it
Senses tattered and torn

Hopeless surrender
Obsession's got me beat
Losing the will to live
Admitting complete defeat

Fatal Descent
Spinning around
I've gone too far
To turn back round

Desperate attempt
Stop the progression
At any length
Lift this obsession

Crawling to my glass prison
A place where no one knows
My secret lonely world begins

So much safer here
A place where I can go
To forget about my daily sins

Life here in my glass prison
A place I once called home
Fall in nocturnal bliss again

Chasing a long lost friend
I no longer can control
Just waiting for this hopelessness to end

II. RESTORATION

Run - fast from the wreckage of the past
A shattered glass prison wall behind me
Fight - past walking through the ashes
A distant oasis before me

Cry - desperate crawling on my knees
Begging God to please stop the insanity
Help me - I'm trying to believe
Stop wallowing in my own self pity

"We've been waiting for you my friend
The writing's been on the wall
All it takes is a little faith
You know you're the same as us all"

Help me - I can't break out this prison all alone
Save me - I'm drowning and I'm hopeless on my own
Heal me - I can't restore my sanity alone

Enter the door
Desperate
Fighting no more
Help me restore
To my sanity
At this temple of hope

I need to learn
Teach me how
Sorrow to burn
Help me return
To humanity
I'll be fearless and thorough
To enter this temple of hope

Believe
Transcend the pain
Living the life
Humility
Opened my eyes
This new odyssey
Of rigorous honesty

Serenity
That I never knew
Soundness of mind
Helped me to find
Courage to change
All the things that I can

"We'll help you perform this miracle
But you must set your past free
You dug the hole, but you can't bury your soul
Open your mind and you'll see"

Help me - I can't break out this prison all alone
Save me - I'm drowning and I'm hopeless on my own
Heal me - I can't restore my sanity alone

III. REVELATION

Way off in the distance I saw a door
I tried to open
I tried forcing with all of my will but still
The door wouldn't open

Unable to trust in my faith
I turned and walked away
I looked around, felt a chill in the air
Took my will and turned it over

The glass prison which once held me is gone
A long lost fortress
Armed only with liberty
And the key of my willingness

Fell down on my knees and prayed
"Thy will be done"
I turned around, saw a light shining through
The door was wide open

I see one rapper in RS's top 50, Run DMC who basically brought rap to the mainstream, read that no other rapper is up there, I wonder why...

Where you getting this from?

Billboard Top Hot 100
Issue Date: September 3, 2005
1. We Belong Together, Mariah Carey

But I was saying rap in general, over the past few years and right now, it still a big genre. I think 2nd biggest according to RIAA and rock n roll is number 1.

Mainstream music is generally dumb music. Simple lyrics, simple beats, and repetition. Rap is huge because it is dumb. Rock had it's hayday for the same reason.

Uh, what is it 50 Cent says? Oh yeah...

All a ni--- really need is a lil bit
Not a lot baby girl just a lil bit
We can head to the crib in a lil bit
I can show ya how I live in a lil bit
I wanna unbutton your pants just a lil bit
Take 'em off and pull 'em down JUST a lil bit
Get to kissin' and touchin' a lil bit
Get to lickin' and fvckin a lil bit

Somebody please shoot him...

Wow...well at #15 there is finally a decent song... about 90% of the stuff on that list sucks.

Many, many poets and librettists of old would tear that apart. Regardless, here's one of my personal favorites:

Am Abend da es kühle war,
ward Adams Fallen offenbar,
am Abend drücket ihn der Heiland nieder,
am Abend kam die Taube wieder
und trug ein Ölblatt in dem Munde,
o schöne Zeit, o Abendstunde!
Der Friedensschluß ist nun mit Gott gemacht;
denn Jesus hat sein Kreuz vollbracht,
sein Leichnam kömmt zur Ruh,
ach, liebe Seele, bitte du,
geh, lasse dir den toten Jesum schenken,
o heilsames, o köstlichs Angedenken!

Mind translating that?

In the evening there it cools was obvious, ward Adam's traps, in the evening depresses it, in the evening came back the pigeon for the welfare and and carried an oil sheet in the mouth, o beautiful time, o evening hour! The peace treaty is now made with God; because Jesus achieved its cross, its body koemmt to rests, oh, dear soul, please you, goes, lets to you the dead Jesum give, o of heilsames, o koestlichs Angedenken!

That's pretty descriptive. By the way, which song were you referring to when you said "rip that apart" ?

what?

Even the really good sh!t like NWA or Public Enemy.

The sad thing is their idea of a good song is probably this:

"shut up when I'm talking to you
shut up shut up shut up
shut up when I'm talking to you
shut up shut up shut up shut up
I?m about to break"

Their views don't carry much weight.

The funny thing is that their beloved Dylan almost always sounds better when covered. In fact I suspect a lot of his fame came from better artists like Hendrix and Rage Against the Machine (a Rock/Hip-Hop act) making amazing versions of his original crappy songs.

completely false and you know it. thanks for coming out.
