I would be absolutely fine with making less. As long as the total coming in was enough to meet our needs

 My hubby's doing what he wants to do, and doesn't care about the money, as long as the bills get paid.

So if he's at home watching Sports Center all day while you are at work, you're cool with that?

Funny you should ask that...he's a farmer, so he works his ass off from April thru November, then doesn't do much from December thru March. I work at home, so while I'm tied to my desk, he's taking a nap and watching Stargate in the other room. He earns it.

I just feel like this because my friends all say I should start a relationship with this rich girl I know. She is not attractive to me and doesn't have much of a personality, but she is seriously loaded. They just want me to date her because she would buy me a new car and things like that.

I don't know, I just think I would feel like a manwhore taking advantage of a girl that made more money than me.

My wife makes 2x as much as I do. It doesn't bother me at all. We've had arguments over our financial situations but it has always been OUR money, not hers or mine. Marriage is a partnership, not a pissing contest.

I think it also makes a difference whether you are talking gf or wife. If I was married, it's not like I can do a whole lot about it. It's not like I am going to divorce her because she makes more money. But, if I am simply dating, then yes I would prefer to make more money than her.

Nope. I'm single, but if anything I'd want the girl I marry to make as much as I do. Double engineering salary would allow aggressive investments into 401k, mutual funds, pay off a nice house quick, and still have some left over to enjoy for like cars, HDTV, etc.

We could retire mutlimillionaires when the kids are in college.

Hell yeah. I'd have no problem staying at home keeping house and watching the kids.
I don't think it's so black and white like that. Your wife could be making a mere $5-10k more than you... but most couples still both work... it doesn't mean you get to slack all day at home and cut off your part of the "dual income" so many of us need. ;)

So basically, you're still working AND making less.

You finally brought up the point I was going to make.

If you're a married couple, its really not a big deal who makes more.

But when you're playing the field, courting and such, its kinda awkward to be dating a woman making more than you.
I don't mean like $50K to $40K...I mean like $30-$40K more than you.

nope, it wouldnt bother me.. i definately would love to be a house husband too.. it feels nice to be the provider for my family, but honstly, i wouldn't mind that pressure being taken off me.. besides, if i made what i do, and my fiance made more than i did, then we'd have plenty of money to get a house or nicer things etc

She's going end up making very close to what I make this year, and I have a $100k education while she dropped out of college. I don't mind. She is a heck of a sales person.

yeah, i do. thats one old stereotype i cant let go of. i feel its my duty to provide for my wife and children. it has nothing to do, conciously anyway, with ego. i just feel its part of my role as a husband and father.

My wife outearns me, but just wait until I get my accounting designation. :D

That said, I'd prefer to outearn my wife in case she gets pregnant. That way I at least know I can provide for us.

I'd bet she'll sell alot more now with the "changes" :)

I wouldn't mind it as long she she spent more on me and I can use the girl excuse of "well you make more than I do" (dates, vacations, bills, etc)

I'm the only one working right now ;)
If she got a job making $5-10k more than I do per year, I could definitely quit working.

If you have a point to make, make it. The single smiley thing just reeks of 'chicken-sh*t'.

If you think that even if you make all the money and the wife stays home making no money that pouts you in charge just stay single.

I would say yes but only because she plans on staying at home with the kids.

It's really not that awkward when you meet the right person. I was a broke student when we met, she was well into her career path (a few years older than me). She knew right from the start that I wasn't going to be a sugar-daddy. It can all work out if you just check your ego at the door.

She makes about triple what I currently do, ya it sucks, but it wont always be that way, and shes happy with her new job, so I am happy for her.
