Do you consider this a magic trick?

that by itself doesn't let anyone go extreme lengths.

Without that he'd be limited to a shorter time.

It's still pretty amazing.

It's impressive but not a magic trick. A magic trick would be if he duplicated himself and one of his copies drowned in the tank while the other copy walked back onto stage alive and well and bowed to the audience.

But its kinda making it seem more amazing. I mean i can hold my breath for about a minute and i assume the average person and do about the same so by him using pure oxygen it makes the average person more impressed when he actually isnt doing anything that impressive.

I don't want to sound like a douchebag, but are you fucking retarded? You're like the person who watches Michael Schumacher racing and thinks, "Big deal, I know how to drive, I could do that no problem." "Oh, he's on pure oxygen, well in that case he should hold his breath for a day to be impressive." He set a world record for Christ's sake... I mean, OK, I don't think there's anything that nifty about being able to hold your breath for 17 minutes. But it is impressive. Useless, but impressive. You act as though all the average man needs is a hit of pure oxygen and he'd be able to do this no problem. That's just unbelievably ignorant.

It's only not magic because we expect too much today. Everyone thinks they are Bill Gates/Chuck Norris out there and can do it all.

If this was done 100 years ago people would probably think he was an alien or warlock.
