Meh, this isn't anything special, he breathed in PURE oxygen. That is, no N2, CO2, just pure oxygen (can't that be dangerous?) If he had done it with straight air, then this would be impressive.

I don't want to sound like a douchebag, but are you fucking retarded? You're like the person who watches Michael Schumacher racing and thinks, "Big deal, I know how to drive, I could do that no problem." "Oh, he's on pure oxygen, well in that case he should hold his breath for a day to be impressive." He set a world record for Christ's sake... I mean, OK, I don't think there's anything that nifty about being able to hold your breath for 17 minutes. But it is impressive. Useless, but impressive. You act as though all the average man needs is a hit of pure oxygen and he'd be able to do this no problem. That's just unbelievably ignorant.

Lol, this is just funny. You sound like a retard trying to attack this guy. Im sure the guy probably has a pretty good lung capacity and he had been training for a while. But I think anyone who wanted to match him could probably do the same over a couple of months.

Before you rant on the lack of benifits for pure O2, do us a favor and look up the average composition of air. Oxygen falls around 20% of what we breath. Now, if you take in 100% O2 that is 5 times the amount you would get with a normal breath. He went for 17 mins, without pure O2 I wouldn't be surprized if he couldn't last more then 3 mins. Still impressive, but not record breaking.

Go look up Molly the Mermaid (I believe she is called) She was about to hold her breath for about 7 mins on regular air. She could stomp his record if she really wanted to by taking in pure O2.

Well actually:
In May 2006 as a finale to a week spent in an aquarium with an air mask at New York's Lincoln Center, Blaine tried to set another type of breath-holding record. Without breathing pure oxygen beforehand, he tried to break the existing record of 8 minutes, 58 seconds for an attempt of that type.

But he had to be rescued shortly after 7 minutes when he was unconscious and having convulsions.

If you are right about it being so easy with the pure O2, then we will see someone break it shortly. You going to give it a shot?
