Do you buy more or less CDS since RIAA BS?

i buy probably about the same, maybe one or two less per year. all of the cds i buy are from bands small enough that their labels probably aren't even in the RIAA and/or their music isn't pirated to any significant degree.

I still don't buy many (haven't since I got out of college several years ago.) I would download a song or two I heard off the radio occasionally, but there are only a handful of artists I'm willing to pay money for a whole CD for. And instead of using Kazaa a lot of my coworkers and I still pool our MP3 collections on a central server so we can share CDs and listen to music at the office. The RIAA is never going to be able to stop music sharing like that which has been going on for decades.

I haven't bought a cd in years but I have also given up downloading mp3s for several months now. It's just not worth it in my opinion.

Vertical Horizon just came out with a new cd I heard so I may have to go pick that one up though 🙂

I haven't bought many since the price has gone over $10/ea in general. Really none... unless you count a few childrens CD's for our daughter.

If the price had dropped to $5-7 each I'd occasionally buy some, but, not as much as I did in my disposable-income-20something days. But at least I would consider it. At the prices I've seen lately $15+ they can suck it.

I don't care about the file trading issue, I'm not saying the price justifies stealing it. I won't buy CD's at the prices today even if all file sharing was stopped. To emphasize the price point issue further... I buy DVD's for $10ea all the time, I'm starting to build quite a collection. Sometimes I'll spend a bit more. Usually I buy them previewed for an avg price of $7ea at blockbuster. But even new at $20 I don't feel raped buying them.

There's no way I believe that the cd needs to cost $15... and I refuse to spend that much on one. $10 is still too high. I can get a LOT of good movies for that price, much more enjoyment than a $10 CD. $7 TOPS for a NEW artist or a Greatest Hits CD, and $5 avg for other slightly older discs would work for me.

RIAA is suck.

The last time I bought a new CD was the new Radiohead, and only because it was $10 @ CC. Before that it was Meteora. (Yes, I like Linkin Park. So sue me)

There are very few bands whose CDs I will buy, typically punk bands, some ska and a few mainstream ones. (Cake, Tool and Beastie Boys spring to mind) If I can I only by my albums used.

I either buy independent, used, or classical. Even if the classical stuff is from a major label, I still know it's good.

No, your company will put a stop to that, if they happen to find out.

I just bought a new CD today, but it isn't exactly a recent one. I bought Live's Throwing Copper, which dates back to 1993. Now that was a time when rock music was good.

I don't live in America...

Otherwise, I buy less albums these years, because there are less wothy bands than before. Many new 'rock' bands just produce noise.

I haven't bought CDs for years...actually about 6 months before I ever knew you could download music (and no, I don't download music). So, I guess I buy fewer albums than I used to, I just buy the odd movie soundtrack and the very rare album I consider worth buying.

I bought a bunch when i was up in Canada last week - I'd rather the Canadian equivalent get the money than the RIAA. I will also buy some in Europe later this month. Other than that I only buy albums from artists on labels which are not affiliated with the RIAA.
Does amazon.ca ship to the US - or is there a good Canadian music store out there with reasonable shipping to the US? I don't want to stop buying music, but I don't want to give the RIAA another cent.

i buy less cds now, but not just because of the riaa; i also take into a count that music sucks now.

I went into sam goody once determined to buy a CD...came out empty handed. Everything...and I mean EVERYTHING in there was horrible. and every disc was at least 10 dollars too much for what I heard.

Like others have said, I buy the cds of independent artists, and lesser known bands. If the band happens to end up on a major label, I will still buy their cds, unless they start to suck (*cough*ataris*cough*)

I have only bought about 15 CDs in my life and that was like 10 years ago. I just stopped listening to music all together before MP3s and I still am kind of in that stage. I listen to mostly talk radio when I listen to the radio.
