Do you buy more or less CDS since RIAA BS?

Once Napster was out, and I could try out the new music before buying it, I spent about 4x as much on CDs as I used to.

I now find myself boycotting all types of musical media, as I'm not going to contribute to the RIAA suing people I know or at my school.

What about you? What are your feelings on this?

I listen to mostly local bands or bands that I have already bought the CD's for. If I absolutely have to buy a CD I buy used.

I voted no - I buy used CDs, so the RIAA sees nothing from me, but I'm still legal.

I only buy high quality music from real bands, the one hit wonder crap that stick in my head for 2 hours, that they shove in a CD full of other songs that suck really bad. I will never pay for.

I download them because they are free, if downloading wasnt an option, i simply wouldnt buy it. Now with tall this crap they are pulling im even LESS likely to buy a decent CD. Just becuase it makes me angry.

Edit: changed wording so i dont get teh banz0r.

I buy CDs I like, but the past 2-3 years hardly any CD worth playing frisbee with has been released, let alone one worth listening to.

I buy fewer CDs not because of the RIAA's moneygrubbing, but because there are very few new albums I'm interested in.

I don't download much, but I haven't bought many CDs lately (3 in the past year, as opposed to about 10 a year about 5 years ago). Rock music, in my opinion, has taken a horrible turn for the worse and is now the home of meaningless, copycat songs.

I buy fewer albums because I can download anything I want for free. Why should I spend money on it when I can download it, or borrow the cd then rip it high bitrate. Same deal with software (except at work). I got busted by the RIAA about 4 years ago back when all they did was send you a C&D letter.

RIGHT ON! How many people out their actually download the music and go buy the album! Barley any, I am drop dead serious. I've got several albums on my HD, how many of the paid for. NONE. Do I ever plan on paying for them? Well, maybe some of them, I've actually got some morals unlike some filesharers. Blink 182 and Red Hot Chilli Peppers can have my $15. However, the mass majority dont give a crap. I like how everyone complains how the CD Albums suck, well guess what is this the RIAA's fault or the bands? So, just because you only like 4 songs gives you the right to steal them? Just because the RIAA/Band makes so much money you are instantly able because they make so much money? Since the RIAA are assholes you get to steal from them? Look at the picture for a second, we started it first. We created Napster, stealing music wasn't a very big problem before then. All of the sudden when broadband comes and you've got Kazaa,Morpheous now.

My music collection before all this filesharing was very limited, and was only good music I really liked.

Now, my music collection is still a few good cds that i like and had to have, and a few more albums that i wouldn't have bought anyway, and hardly listen to.

I dont buy cd's because there isnt any music out there right now worth paying for. I just listen to my records Phil Ochs, Joan Baez Country Joe and the Fish etc. Ive got a couple hundred pounds of vinyl records saved up over the years.

I buy more CDs now than I ever have... For those of you who say there's no decent new music out there, turn off the f*cking radio and go find some real music! There's tons of great stuff out there that never gets airplay, you just have to work a bit to find it. I quit listening to most radio 5 years ago and haven't regretted a thing.

I've been afraid to BUY CDs incase they won't work. So I've been shifting my entertainment budget elsewhere and got more games and DVDs.

$18 for a new CD or $15 for Eternal Darkness?

I went for the one that'll do unexpected things in a GOOD way.

The last CD I bought was the Eminem Show (only because I wanted to use my "free" music points at the BMG club).

I am BOYCOTTING the RIAA and will NEVER buy a NEW CD again. :p

(I wil continue to support artists I like by going to their concerts)

Haven't bought a CD in over a year. Even then, I regretted it, because it sucked. Since my wife got me Sattelite Radio in my car, I don't have much need for them, anyway.

Exactly....hmm.. Daredevil soundtrack for $17.95 or Daredevil on freaking DVD for $14.95!!! Hard freaking choice there. I buy many more DVD's than music CDs. Though I of course do buy the CD"s of artists I like....that have enough good songs to warrant purchase.

I buy cds all the time. Most of the bands are underground and and have nothing to do with the RIAA.
