Would someone PLEASE explain why the Bible is taken as the absolute truth? Like I said before, it's not a magical book, but a collection of writings from many people.
How do you know someone didn't write about evolution and that scroll was never found??

If you really feel that the bible is absolute truth, why does it contradict itself? How can God change his character and his law from the time of the Old Testament to the New Testament?
The Bible may be a great guide to behaviour but it is NOT a history book. Anyone who uses it to "disprove" evolution, needs to learn some real history. Who did the Catholic Church imprison for saying the earth was round? That was Galileo. And they extrapolated from biblical stories that the earth was flat. Creationists are doing the same thing, but like the Bible says, you can only see the plank(?) in others' eyes, not your own.

Never said it was the absolute truth.

On the other hand, I come from the perspective of a Christian turned agnostic/skeptic.

Someone said: "We do not know."

You do not speak for me. I do know and so do many more spiritual adults who have grown up under the tutelage of God.

There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed.

But didn't most of them die with Jim Jones?

Name calling may divert attention from weakness and sooth a spirit filled with folly, but ignorance and sloth will result in death.

Evolution is the playground the ignorant go to because they will not take the Truth.

Wouldn't it make sense that if God can create such a complicated beast such as man, that he could put dinasour bones in the ground and make them look like they were 6 million years old?

Just to see who would follow his Word and who would follow the world.

Truth is for the Righteous, not the stubborn.

The stubborn will remain deluded and in the dark.

Just curious?

Has anyone who was firmly in one camp ever been persuaded to cross over and join the other team due to an online discussion like this?

Yeah I use to be a devout Christian until I read some of Paltroll's posts and I knew there was no God.

Well one thing we can know for sure and that's if evolution is true equals there is no God than there is no God. The fact of evolution couldn't be any more clear. Fortunately, however, if you are spiritually minded, the factuallity of evolution says nothing at all about whether there is a God. So if there is a God, it is quite obvious that a lot of people have an incorrect notion of His reality.

And if there is any purpose and reason to wish to retain religious belief as a part of human culture, and you have to seriously wonder looking at the world, then those who make the absurd claim that evolution is false, in the face of the titanic evidence to the contrary, evidence that cannot help but sway any unprogramed mind, they do religion a profound disservice because they turn it into a farce fit only for fools. How many people who have not opened the door to the hunger in their souls simply walk away from Christianity laughing their asses off because so many have made of it a ridiculous joke?

I know they are ass chappers.
I really do, and they annoy me too, but sheesh...every religion has a handful of numnuts.

Any *real* Christian will not believe in evolution, numbnuts. You obviously don't know your Bible. Any Christian who believes in evolution is... how did you say... "misguided" in their own religion.

Care to point out in the Bible where evolution is described and depicted as the begining of time? And, after that, care to prove that you don't have to believe the *whole* Bible, only parts of it, to be a Christian?

...idiots.

nik

And here we have it again. Another "so called" Christian thinking that he has the right to pass judgement on someone else. I don't remember reading the part in the bible that says "nik gets to choose who is a Christian and who isn't". I know several Christians who believe that their god created the earth and everything evolved from that time. The bible sure doesn't refute this idea, but I guess you can because you're special

Funny that you often call other people "idiots" when you exemplify the word with nearly every post you make.

Look it up for yourself. If you're going to follow a religion, atleast follow the basics before calling yourself a Christian. It's just like the "muslim" extremists. True Muslims wouldn't rally up people, stick dynomite on them or give them flying lessons, then blow things up. It goes against what the Muslim faith stands for. You can't just call yourself a Muslim or a Christian without walking the walk. If you call yourself a Muslim, yet go around killing thousands of people, I would seriously question your faith. And, likewise, if you call yourself a Christian, but don't believe what the Bible says, who knows what else you don't believe - again, I would seriously question your faith.

If by 'firmly in one camp' you mean religous zealots, it doesn't really matter. No amount of rational discussion would ever have an effect on them.
OTOH if you mean people who have held a viewpoint for a long time but can examine it objectively, then discussion can be enriching, or lots of trolling and flaming.

Assuming god is out to trick people, now we can't believe anything we see or learn for ourselves, only what is taught to us by what Palco calls the righteous.

This site is full of people who hate religion, why do people even bother with these topics? All anyone believes anymore is that evolution is true and whatnot but people seem to be looking at the small picture and not the big one. How in the fvck did all of this get created? Where did the particles for the big boom originate from? The only thing holding my faith with God is that nothing can explain this. Life.

Believe what you want, guys. Opinions seem to only piss people off when you try and convert them or whatever you do to desecrate their beliefs. I'm just sick of all these forums of people yelling at other people (maybe not this one but I've seen other ones) and frankly I would rather not know what their beliefs are so I could avoid the futile arguments that would accomplish nothing except irritance and hatred.

I'm a Christian and proud to be one. Maybe evolution is true and maybe God doesn't exist but only the end can tell. Death we have yet to comprehend.

If you believe a thread like this is a good place to share the love of God, you are sorely mistaken.

Threads like these are an opportunity to share with the weak in our camp the power that is available to them when facing the foolishness of the devil.

Far from being a place to reach the lost, it is place to use the foolish as a tool to train the young who must go into everyday life and beat back the policy advanced by the twisted.

we don't currently know how it all got started, and there is a chance we never will. But this begs the [classic] question of "who/what created god?" At this point most people get defensive or say something like "you can't understand god, so there". Its all BS....

"who/what created god?"

God was not created, he has always been alive.

Your problem in understanding this is the limited prospective you bring to the question. There are realms of being that are not limited by the physical sense world that you rely on to gain information.

Just curious, how long is always, 6000 years, cause if not I was just wondering what he did for trillions of years before there was anything. Knowing could come in handy with all the 'I'm bored' threads we get.
