Do you also hate brainless FPS? Or just brainless games in general?

Speaking for the original Unreal Tournament (UT99), it wasn't another dumb FPS game--it became a cybersport. Playing in a 5v5 capture-the-flag clan match or organized pickup game (PUG) match with voice comm and assigned positions almost felt as though you were a cyber-athlete playing in an athletic event. The action was fast and intense and had the flow of a hockey game where you had to make plays.

I'm not sure how the "realistic" WWII-style shooters compare, but I don't think they're anything like that.

I wouldn't call it mindless; part of being a good UT player is about anticipating your opponent's movements and maintaining awareness of what's going on in the game.

As someone else mentioned, Halo 1 didn't take itself too seriously and for that you can't get too upset over the storyline. After Halo 1 though, the series got all convoluted and I was never exactly sure what was going on in the story. And it was at some point during Halo 2 that I realized I literally had no idea what the hell was happening and that I no longer cared to find out. And Halo 3 brought more of the same. The first half of the game was a total snooze-fest, and by the time you got to The Ark nobody cared anymore... Or at least I didn't. :p

The multiplayer was really good in all three games. And Halo 1 on PC was really quite enjoyable. I wouldn't mind seeing Halo 3 come to PC at some point either, the game had a nice, colorful look to it but suffered under the XBox 360's woeful graphics (low res, no AA).

Halo 1 on the PC is literally one of the most painfully bad experiences I've ever had with FPS games. I can't speak for the XBox version, but the PC one was terrible.

I don't know what you're talking about. I think it's quite fun.

Diablo is far from mindless. There are tons of websites out there devoted to different strategies to be used. A game that requires you to think about what strategy you're going to be using is the opposite of mindless..
Highend PvP in D2 requires so much brain power building your character its ridiculous. You have to know every little qwerk of the game engine and adopt it to your playing style. Ive spent days planning out characters before I even made them.

Too bad very few people actually saw that side of the game, and just the retardedly powerful hammer pally PvE.
