Do you also hate brainless FPS? Or just brainless games in general?

Like Doom, Quake, Crysis and other shitty games?

Some games, like Grand Theft Auto, may be worthless pieces of trash played only by trash in our society, however, they are actually semi-intellectual works.

But when games do not even pretend to have that aspect, and they are just brainless mindless POS like many FPSes, that really really draws my ire.

PS. There are some great FPSes like the Call of Duty series that are antithesis of the topic.

I haven't played any of the GTA games... What do you mean by "semi-intellectual"?

Crysis was pretty engaging I thought. Yeah a lot of the spotlight was on its "prettiness", but the gameplay was far from mindless. I do dislike all the mindless banter on forums about its prettiness.

When I think of mindless FPSs I think of Halo, Serious Sam, & Painkiller.

Play Halo's campaign and tell me it's mindless (plot-wise). The plot of Halo is up there with some of the best Sci-Fi in video games. That goes for the original Halo: CE, as well as Halo 1-3 as a whole.

That is, of course, assuming you're talking about games' single player campaigns. I assume that you're not talking about online multiplayer because while I completely agree that Halo's multiplayer is mindless entertainment I can't think of any FPS which DOESN'T have a mindless multiplayer mode.

Funny - when I think "Mindless Shooter", Call of Duty is pretty far up the mindlessness scale. Respawning enemies, completely linear gameplay, regenerating plasma shield 'health'.

Prettying up your mindless gameplay with an overly convoluted excuse plot doesn't make it intellectual any more then spraying perfume on a litter box makes it an air freshener.

COD multiplayer is mindless

I would not say I do not care for mindless, because sometimes it can be fun or simply perfect for killing time

I honestly can't remember the last game I finished. I usually jump straight into multiplayer. I never even played the single player of COD and I heard it was really fun.

Anyway I think there are times for brainless games. Sometimes you just want to shoot/blow crap up.

I've played the gta games and I usually end up driving around trying to run people over, beating up hookers, or trying to get the cops to chase after me. I also try to do tricks with the motorcyles. After a day or two I get bored and never touch it again.

Multiplayer in any context is difficult to universally pan as mindless.

Another human player often represents a far greater tactical challenge, if not simply hand-eye challenge.

Halo's plot is completely childish, and is no way innovative or interesting in the science fiction genre.

It's like saying Avatar has one of the best plots of the science fiction genre.

I hate everything about wow and MMO's. brainless games that reward people for the amount of time they spend playing it, not skill or anything else.

twitch FPS games like quake, at least when played online, require lots of skill and strategy. my opinions of COD4 are very low for multiplayer though, i think it's a grenade and airstrike spam and camp fest that caters to noobs, but yeah, i agree with you.

So because some games are lacking in the storyline, ie Crysis, that makes it a pos? But then you go on to say that Halo is excellent.

I'm sorry but I find your logic quite off, imo.

GTA has a more involved storyline than Halo. Sure, GTA involves killing people. But doesn't ALL fps games involve killing.
