We don't have the largest prison population per capita because of violent crime, we have because of draconian, misguided drug laws. We definitely need to make actual violent crimes have MUCH stiffer penalties than we do now, but need to scale back our war against non-violent, victimless "offenders". It's fucking insane that you can get more time for selling weed than killing someone.

Yeah I got you, you think you can win any fight with a jumping side kick to a quick falcon punch.

So now you go from being able to stop the rape happening to getting a shank and hunting the guy down once you recover? I think they sort of expect that and I think most will put some serious trauma into their victim first.

Sitting in an overnight holding cell is not prison.

i have never been arrested because i don't commit crime(or at least get caught when I have).

i do know plenty of people who have gone to jail, some are good guys, some should never have been released. i bet you're the kind of person who always has to make themselves look like an idiot by assuming shit about others they know nothing about. lols dumbass

If they would actually start killing people on death row, and make it faster I would be all for it. There are plenty of instances where people plead guilty, or there is incontrovertible proof that they committed a terrible crime. You rape a child? You die. You rob and kill someone? You die. You break into a house and kill a whole family? You die. etc. It shoudlnt be dragged out, you should just be killed. End of story.

People getting 8 DUI's should be allowed to live, much less not even be in prison for any length of time. Its only a matter of time before they kill someone. I have zero sympathy for such people. But America and this world as a whole is getting more pussified every year. We have to coddle everyone, because its never their fault. Its their parents fault. Its their up bringing. Its their friends. Its their music. Its the video games. blah blah. They can always do better next time. Thats BS, you do such a heinous act, you forfeit your life.

Violent crimes committed by people are nothing more than mirrors of our corrupt society.

Every time one of our leaders commits a crime and is not held accountable this injustice is mirrored in our society by people at large. The net effect is that the top people commit crimes and the bottom people pay for the those crimes.

The only way to reduce violent crime is to reduce the injustice of our leaders not being punished for their violent crimes.

So no we do not need harsher penalties for violent crimes. We just need to hold our leaders responsible for their violent crimes. All crimes committed by our leaders are violent crimes.

The US should implement "habitual criminal" laws. 3 or more convictions on "serious felony charges" and either life in prison...or the death penalty. Personally, I'm in favor of expanding the death penalty anyway. Forcible rape, child molestation, political corruption, cutting me off on the freeway...the list goes on and on and on...

It shouldn't matter if the criminal is from the hood, was molested as a child, or what ever excuse...The taxpayers shouldn't have to support those who refuse to live without resorting to a life of crime.

No, you need much more lenient punishment in the US in general, and more of a focus on rehabilitation and prevention.

You've already got far too many people locked up.

Most people that commit violent crimes are people that were abused violently when younger.

So to hold these people accountable for being tortured by their parents is insane.

Child abuse causes severe chemistry changes in the brain that are difficult to undo in adulthood.

Jail just makes things worse by reinforcing the trauma induced brain damage.

BS. Plenty of people have terrible childhoods and don't go on to rape or murder. It's not fair that some kids are abused, but nothing excuses or mitigates those kinds of terrible crimes.
