You've done "researches"? Well aren't you bright? I never said I went to 300 restaurants in my 35 day visit. That would be totally ridiculous. I said 300 places including restaurants, hotels, office buildings, etc. you moron, go read the post you so hastily misquoted and have tried to build upon.

regarding my statement that 9 out of 10 guys here in America don't wash their hands after using the restroom (usually after a piss), that was a general comment. The point is a majority do not. Take the WHOLE 1 second next time to observe the whether the other person goes straight from toilet to door or washes his hands. Its really not that weird to notice such things, its just the little things that we observe in life. I will admit though that I notice these things more because I'm one of those people who washes his hands a number of times a day, before each meal, and usually use paper to hold the bathroom door open (in public facilities).

BTW, at least one other poster mentioned that this occurs in Vietnam and Malaysia as well. Another said it happens in Iraq. I know that other Middle Eastern countries do that, including Turkey, and I have seen those same toilets (squatting toilets) where you wash with water in some older buildings in Italy. It is not something categorically "Indian." I wonder why you are really attracted to this thread, and really making some bemeaning comments, I can only speculate why. Maybe you do not like the country or its people. In that case, I would suggest quit using AnandTech because I believe Anand himself is of Indian descent. I have at least been there, so that is why I am posting.

You certainly spend a lot of time ridiculing another country and its people that I presume you have never been to and never will go to. Whats the attraction there? If your only contention is that its gross, fine, post that and move on. But why are you lingering on this thread so much, misquoting me, and ridiculing the way the people handle their bidness? You're asian, your people probably eat dogs, snakes, rodents, or insects , or one or a combination of those - shall we start a thread on that? Fillipinos/Chinese eat dogs, snakes, rodents, those from Laos eat cockroaches/grasshoppers. I know Vietnamese eat cats. Most normal people would probably post that is sick or gross and move on. Normal people would probably not claim to have done "researches" and consistently bash and ridicule. Does making cheap laughs online make you feel good or something? Even at the expense of lying (my blantantly misquoting me and by selectively targeting a specific country implication being that ONLY those people do it) and speaking out of your a55 (since you have never personally witnessed it) - no pun intended.

I think this thread is beneath the majority of AT threads, or let me rephrase, i think it has BECOME that. I do not think the original posters intention was that it gets to this. I'm still new, but i'm sure that many find this thread pretty gross, and the talk that goes on here cheap. As I posted last night, I do not want to engage this thread anymore, not because i am mad - as I am not, but because i think its cheap. I had to though when you misquoted me and attempted to misrepresent my position. Do I think its gross what they do? yes. Do I think it is just India? No, most of us realize there are other people that do this, who knows, there may be 10-20 nations where this practice is common. Am I going to bash the people that do that? No, they've been ridiculed enough, I'm not going to beat a dead horse. My only point is not whether they do it or not, my point was a more or less direct reply to the original posters question, that being that most places in urban, metropolitan major cities (New Delhi, specifically), probably 90-95 percent have toilet paper. Thats it. I'm not here to defend the practice, to say that its right (or wrong for that matter), nor am I here to say they don't do that. I do believe I have the right to type what I have seen though, as I said, i've been there twice recently.

To other members:

I hope this thread dies off, and won't post again unless i'm misquoted or misrepresented again.
Thank you.

I've done researches from various sources. I'm too tired to give out all the details but let me tell you something. What you've said is nothing but a BS. You don't know anything about India's toilet system and usage of TP. Do your self some research first before you make a fool out of yourself.

Inspector Jihad,
I'm again asking you, please let us know.

Tell me your daily activities. You must lead a harsh life. What do you do that you touch something that's "more deadly and infectious than feces on a daily basis"?

Probably because there are some feces loving people that are defending the feces smearing practice.

And there are other Indians ridiculing the practice of wiping feces all over your hands.

jbaggins,

I'm NOT aginst Indians. I'm against Indians who wipe their ass with a hand even when they are outside of India. I'm against Indians who claim it's perfectly clean although they think using left hand is nasty as hell. I'm against Indians who claim TP poke through situation is nastier than just using a hand. Why bring Anand being Indian descent? What makes you think he uses his hand too? Do you think I wouldn't like him just because he's an Indian descent? It doesn't matter who they are as long as they do not use their hands.

I, too, know there're some other nations with that hand wipe ass culture. But the main focus narrowed down to Indians as Indians here started get busy with their ridiculous words that doesn't make sense. If they said 'yeah, it's dirty, but it's the culture', I might have not been this upset but they claimed something different as I summerized on the top of page 8. The worst being that we touch something that's "more deadly and infectious than feces on a daily basis" so that wiping sh1t with a hand isn't that bad????
Wow, that's so true, I can't argue with that, can I?????????

BTW, you were the first one who came up with all that data about India by visiting there what 2 times?????????? I'm sorry but I gotta trust the data from REAL Indians on this board or various resources that I've found on the web. Did you even know that it's was only a few years ago that airports in India started having TP? Beside cities, there're no such thing as toilet and that people just do it on the street? Do yourself some research.

P.S : Why do I care about this so much???? It's because there're Indians here and there everywhere. Hell, I've even gone to a Indian restaurant. If it's a culture within a country with some population, I wouldn't care much. However, there're just tons of Indians immagrating to other nations with that nasty hand. Would you appriciate an Indian dentist because it's just a cultural difference? It'd fine if they keep thier culture and wear a glove when going outside. Micheal Jackson need to give away his gloves.

Let me clear something up:

Wiping your ass with your bare hand is digusting. If you wipe your ass with your hand, you're gross.

If I had a choice between shaking the hand of an Indian who uses TP or an Italian who wipes his crap with his hand, I'm shaking the Indian's hand and keeping away from DungBoy over there. Saying "it's my culture" is no excuse for bad habits.

I have nothing wrong with Indians, I have something wrong with people with disgusting hygiene. Easy enough to understand? Playing the "insensitivity" card was pretty lame.

The main focus has not narrowed down to Indians. It has become a pissing match between you and 'them'.

When you write I too know there's "some other" nations that do it, you are downlplaying it. why not just say I know India is not alone in this? That would be more accurate. Quite honestly I, and I presume you, don't know exactly how many cultures engage in this activity. But, seeing how most of the world is more like India and less like the U.S. or England, I would venture to guess that there must be many more countries that engage in this activity. Again, if you want to argue with the people on here, that's fine, but why do you need to bring up the nationality? Because we have established the fact that it is not restricted solely to India, and you agree, we do not need to specifically declare the nations or make an issue out of someones nationality.

Second, I never, NOT ONCE, said that I am speaking for the entire nation. So when you write, " you were the first one who came up with all the data about India by visiting there what 2 times?" That is another misrepresentation of fact. I never spoke for the entire nation. I said, and continue to say major, metropolitan cities and that too those establishments that are middle class or better. Sound technical, it isn't really because those are the kinds of places most people like us would actually use. I do not think that a foreigner would enter the United States would go straight to Vidor, Texas. Likewise, if you were to go to India, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't go to some village somewhere. You and others would probably go to the major metropolises.

With regards to the airports not having tp a few years ago, how is that relevant to this discussion. The original poster asked a question in the present tense, so lets talk about what goes on now. If that was used to try to prove that you know more about it - well, good for you. I'm not trying to boast about my knowledge on the excrement culture of various developing nations. I just need to say what I saw, plain and simple.

Heres why Indians should use TP:

According to Central Public Health Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO) estimates, as on 31 March 2000, 88 per cent of urban population has access to a potable water supply.

Water is typically available for only 2-8 hours a day in most Indian cities. The situation is even worse in summer when water is available only for a few minutes, sometimes not at all.

According to a World Bank study, of the 27 Asian cities with populations of over 1,000,000, Chennai and Delhi are ranked as the worst performing metropolitan cities in terms of hours of water availability per day.

The nation's capital is perpetually in the grip of a water crisis, more so during the dry season, when the situation gets particularly worse.

In Delhi approximately 13 per cent (Source: Zerah., M Helene, 2000, Water - Unreliable Supply in Delhi, French Research Institute of India) households do not receive water every day.

and JBaggins says 95% use TP ... even tho they dont have running water ... hmmm... TPs collecting in the bowl ... with nothing to flush with ...

jbaggins: "I was there for 1 month, and probably went to over 300 restaurants, office buildings, hotels, ,peoples houses, theaters, the airport, combined."

So you visited an average of more than 10 new places every day while you were there? Even if it's not '300 restaurants' as you were misquoted, it's still a huge exaggeration or are you going to claim you really were going to that many new places every day?

Very interesting but disgusting at the same time. After ass wiping with the hand, what do those people do without water???????? Do they use the urine to wash their hands? Wiping ass with a hand then washing it with urine?

But if people eat feces then you shouldn't say it's wrong because it's part of their culture. And if you don't like people that eat feces then you're a racist. Even if you're part of that race.

Hahahaah :D, now I must admit your stupidy is quite entertaining. Have you even completed high school. because there seem to be logical flaw in your reasoning.
