So far it's been mostly movie trailers and softcore porn (with the occasional video of someone's dog).

Oh 🙁 What is the URL extension you use for 720p? I forgot.

I have an HD camcorder (Canon HF100) but it records to .MTS and the only thing I know to do with it is convert it to DVD format (.VOB using ConvertXtoDVD) so that I can further convert it from there (AVI / WMV). How the hell do I make it watchable HD instead? I can watch the .VOB but I don't believe that's real HD.
The .MTS file plays in Media Player Classic without audio and there are lines across it as if my PC doesn't have the juice to play it (but it's quad-core w/ 4GB ram). Right codec? Searched but no cigar.
If I were to upload to Youtube (and I have done so with a VOB), it doesn't appear HD even with the correct fmt22 extension.

When you edit it see if your program allows you to render to divx, that's usualy what I do. It needs to be under 1Gig for youtube anyway so divx is about the only standard codec out there that can do it while keeping decent quality. (that I know of) There's xvid too but that just crashes whenever I try to render to it so it's a lost cause.

BTW, the Canon uses AVCHD which presents itself in .MTS.

Hmm how does that work? Thought you had to capture video, so it depended on the capture card and not the camera, or do cameras actually generate the files now? I'm way behind when it comes to video cameras...

It writes right onto the SD card in the camera an MTS file for that session while it is recording. I just use a card reader to fetch it.
