Do people not have any interesting HD videos to upload to Youtube?

I have an HD camcorder (Canon HF100) but it records to .MTS and the only thing I know to do with it is convert it to DVD format (.VOB using ConvertXtoDVD) so that I can further convert it from there (AVI / WMV). How the hell do I make it watchable HD instead? I can watch the .VOB but I don't believe that's real HD.

The .MTS file plays in Media Player Classic without audio and there are lines across it as if my PC doesn't have the juice to play it (but it's quad-core w/ 4GB ram). Right codec? Searched but no cigar.

If I were to upload to Youtube (and I have done so with a VOB), it doesn't appear HD even with the correct fmt22 extension.

I just made this video. It was not really planned and was a spur of the moment thing so the video itself is not really anything special but it was mostly to test out the quality. Really turned great. Looking forward to making more serious videos. (one coming up soon for the Christmas event boss)

When you edit it see if your program allows you to render to divx, that's usualy what I do. It needs to be under 1Gig for youtube anyway so divx is about the only standard codec out there that can do it while keeping decent quality. (that I know of) There's xvid too but that just crashes whenever I try to render to it so it's a lost cause.

Are you saying it'll still be classified as HD depending on the bitrate of the new divx file? What is the magical number - 3000kbps? But it has to go directly from .MTS correct? I have had no luck with any conversion programs doing that... what do you use? Virtualdub won't read MTS.

Well probably wont be "true" hd. But I doubt you can make a "true" hd video under 1 Gig unless it's only a few seconds. Surprisingly divX turns out quite nice (see my video, be sure to click the link to see in high quality).

To convert I use virtual dub to cut my video then I throw it in sony vegas (vegas crashes if I just give it the full avi). All my captures are done in raw AVI, I've never heard of .mts files.

Also how did they make that chinese one? it's even bigger then normal, like the layout is totally changed and all.

^ for youtube, the HD videos should present a "watch in HD" link instead of just high quality. That's what I saw last time...

BTW, the Canon uses AVCHD which presents itself in .MTS.

Hmm does it just take longer for hd to show up due to processing? For the high quality link to show on mine it took about a day or so. Also what is the actual res for hd? I saw 1290*720 (probably should be 1280*720) in some docs, while other docs say half of that... so which is right? The link in the actual upload section is broken so the sources I found were by searching the site and it's in two different docs.

Hmm how does that work? Thought you had to capture video, so it depended on the capture card and not the camera, or do cameras actually generate the files now? I'm way behind when it comes to video cameras...

(doh meant to edit last post, not make new one)

It writes right onto the SD card in the camera an MTS file for that session while it is recording. I just use a card reader to fetch it.

Oh cool, that actually is way better then traditional cameras, no need to replay the whole thing to capture it.
