Do people actually like MacGyver or is that just a big 'Simpsons' joke?

The one episode that comes to mind was when they were locked in a walk-in freezer at (an airport?)
MacGyver used the lightbulb to melt water which ran down a trough into the door where it froze and expanded, forcing the door open.

I was thinking, "wtf. The water would freeze ON the trough, well before it made it to the door. Hey, MacGyver, the door will flex slightly. If you kick it hard, right in the center, it will open." (from experience)

I saw this same episode a couple weeks ago. He also cuts up a magnesium bike and mixes it with iron oxide (rust!) to make a "thermite torch" to cut through a armored car door. But 10 minutes later, you see MacGyver standing next to an acetylene torch. Why didn't he just use that torch? I guess he was just showing off his badassness. It's dumb now, but I loved that show when I was a kid.

The greatest part about that scene is the way it all came out.
Mac Gyver was all like, "why don't you just torch the damn door open"
and the bad guy was all like "Hey smarta$$, where the heck we gonna get a torch"
And MacGyver was all like "Fool! there's a bike right there" like he was a complete moron.

Then he builds the torch whilst the bad guy stands like an idiot and gets pwned.

MacGyver has always been King! Hell why do you think Stargate SG1 is so successful. I think that if he wasnt a part of that show, it wouldn't be as successful as it is.
