do most hotels ask for ID when checking in

So I'm 17 and will be traveling to Miami tomorrow for an interview.

I just noticed in the hotel (holiday inn) email that they do not allow guests under 21 to check in without adult supervision.

Is this usually enforced (ID check)? The reservation is under my name and my credit card. I look reasonably mature and could potentially pass for 21.

if they really are difficult about it, I think I will resort to that... Are there any potential legal/other repercussions if he decides to not accept it?

I spent ~180 nites in hotels last year for work, yes they always ask for ID. But they really only look at the name, if you look mature then you won't have a problem checking in. Thats interesting that the age limit is 21, i've only ever seen 18 and 24-25 (in resort areas during spring break time)

My brother and Sister both work at the front desk for holiday inn. They do check for ID

I tried to check into a hotel that we already had a reservation at with my girlfriend in wilmington a few months ago. They asked, i produced ID, and they turned us away (i'm 18). I was pretty pissed off. It wasn't even i major chain. You may need your parents to call or something....

It is probably a test from the employer interviewing you. They want to see how you handle yourself in a difficult situation. I think your best solution would be to create a fake ID in preparation for your trip. However, if you are turned away, I would advise you to stay out of Overtown.

I've stayed in quite a few hotels, and have never been asked for ID. Apparently I'm unique, given the other responses in this thread?

They usually ask for ID, but its usually to match up the name on the credit card. Now that I'm 23, I've checked into various hotels by myself at all ages 18+ and never had a problem. Always had a CC in my own name. If you show up looking all ghetto, with your pants on your knees and ridculous chains holding a boombox next to your head, you might have trouble. If you show up dressy casual, carrying one normal suitcase, you'll be fine.

In IL you have to be 21 unless you live more than 100 miles away from the hotel. (can't have teenagers renting a room after prom now can we) I'm not sure if other states have this stipulation or not.

You're a minor, technically. Of course you need an ID and adult supervision. You are legally under the custody of your parents at all times.

Did the company you are interviewing with make the reservation for you? You could have them call to verify that they will be an underage person checking in.

I've never been asked for an ID in the US. They just ask me for address and telephone number. Now, I've been asked for my Passport plenty of times when traveling overseas.

Isn't it normal for the college to provide housing for that? (probably in a dorm room with a current student)
