Do I really need 10 megs down?

 • Hell yes you do! Don't even think about slowing down.

 • Nah, you'll probably be fine with 2.

 • Hell no, drop down to 2, or even less.

 • Which way did he go, George?

Hmm. Our Cable starts at 10/1 and goes up to 50/5. Intro pricing on the 10/1 is $35/mo apparently. We were at 45/mo for 10/1 but it jumped to 56 recently. Thread reminded me to call in and they could offer me $45 /mo again for a one time fee of $25. Hmm.. Oh wait, we can take half off and only charge $12.50.

Prompted me to look into Uverse, which apparently is finally available in area. Could get 12 down for $30/mo for a year, but $48 after and a $100 install.

Took the cable discount for now.

If it wasn't for the $100 fee for uverse, I think I'd switch over. That fee is ridiculous. Anyone ever get them to waive the fee? I've never seen an ISP charge $100 for a setup fee just to give you a modem.

Was thinking about going with a little slower speed via uverse and then adding in Netflix for the TV part. hmm.

I have 15/2 and am happy with it... that is until I go to my brothers house that has a 35/35 plan. (not offered in my area)

I downgraded a few months ago from 12 to 3, it's not too bad but look forward to the occasional speed bump that Cox does to all tiers

I have 25/25 which is actually effectively 30/30 in actual measured speeds. No way could I go to something like 2Mbps..

Kind of crappy they way they have their plans tiered. 2Mbps isn't worth $31 a month. I think the way my plan is it's something like $35 for the 25/25 bundled w\ TV.

oops I missed that tv episode from last week... it's lunch time, let's see how fast I can DL it.

<-- starts watching it less than 2 minutes later.

Yea I have the 3/.76 from cox as well. But I get about 10% over the rated nunmbers. The next speed up woudl be nice but it requires almost $20 more and I can already live with 3.

I expensive mine intrawebs to my company so I have the 50 down 3 up plan from Charter.

I have to say, it doesn't suck.

while you may not need 10, I would say 2 is too slow, especially for sort of decent streaming video (netflix et al)

This.

I'm surprised it's only 10 for the next tier though. I'm in the bottom tier in my area and with roadrunner I get 20 down, and only 2 up. I've been with them since the first month they were available in my area though, so maybe I'm grandfathered in or something.

More bandwidth will help when you download games off of steam. Those are great speeds I'm stuck at about 1Mbps-1.5Mbps down and up. Those are megabits not megabytes btw.

My provider just upgraded everyone to 25 down for free. You can't get lower than 25 down from them now, so everyone got bumped to the minimum 25 level for no charge.

Same thing happened to me! We started at 512k and got bumped and bumped and bumped until now I'm at 50Mb

I was at 10 down for years and then switched to 3 down when I moved. It sucked. Did it for a year and hated it. Jumped up to 25 down. Not looking back.

Yea Charter did that for me at my old place. Only they failed to inform it was a mandatory "free promotional period". Bill jumped up think $15/month after a couple months. Called after seeing my bill, they wanted a 2 year contract to get the old price. Cancelled service on the spot.

I get 10mbps for $30/mo from TW. I actually usually get around 15mbps in practice, which is nice. Upload is really slow at 1 or 2mbps.

6 would be the minimum I could tolerate. I have 36mb now and pay $10 extra a month over the amount I would pay for 8mb.

When I finally got off Dial-up down at the old farm, I got 1.5 Mbps, blazing fast for me! LOL.
Had 10 Mbps with Time-Warner, then 10 with Comcast.
Now at the new farm, getting 3 Mbps.
Can't nor ever could tell any difference in any of them.
Maybe because I don't game nor download large files or torrents.
(The only time I noticed "slow" "High Speed" was at a jobsite with 756(?) Kbps, better than Dial-up, but still slower than I like.

(Might add: I signed up with Windstream, the only provider here, they stated I couldn't get 3 Mbps this far out, only 1.5, but I still get 3!)

Edit: See bolded. Kbps, not Mbps.
