do banana plugs work on any receiver or speaker?

never used them, just used standard speaker wire. they look nice for easy disconnection. can they work on anything, or do the jacks have to be special to accept them?

you can make them work on pretty much anything. I find them to be a pain in the arse though.

pins? I'm only familiar with bare speaker wire, trying to find a better-looking option and one that's easier to disconnect.

It all depends on your setup and placement of the cables. I use silver spades in my setup.

I think most newer stuff will work with them. Do you have binding posts on your receiver or those black and red plastic hinge sort of things (i don't know what they're called)? As long as you have binding posts on your receiver and speakers it should work.

Oh, a friend of mine with an older sony tried banana plugs but his outputs on receiver were pretty close together and the posts ended up touching each other... and the kind he got used the outside surface as one of the conductors = no good.

Pins are for the hinge connectors.
Like these

Banana plugs are for posts.

no, they do not.

many receivers/speakers will not accept banana plugs (they claim to be 5 way binding posts but the diameter is too small for standard banana plugs)

Yes they are very easy for connecting/disconnecting.

they sure do look easier. Its just a pain to have to deal with screwing the ends on, then unscrewing them when your wire falls out just to have to screw them back in. Twist your ends and plug your wire in.

A plug is a plug, I use them all the time for EE labs. I don't like 'em that much, but if you move your speakers a lot, it might be worth it. Otherwise, I'd just sick with wire.

Even then, you might be better off just tinning the wires and calling it a day.

So's first post is about right...if you can use them, great, but unless you're changing and moving speakers/hardware every week, just use the bare wire.

You're probably better off soldering them in, if possible, rather than screwing the wires in.

you have to screw the wires in...thats what holds them inside the pin
