I always pick 'em up if I happen by the library or a clone shop, where they're usually available in stacks. Articles are never that good, but it's a great place to compile lists and prices for parts.
In the Greater Toronto Area (Canada), we have three of this type: The Computer Paper, Toronto Computes and We Compute. Yeah, they really do bite for news. They're all monthly publications but they're usually 2-5 months behind what's currently going on.
I have to kinda wonder how these publications stay afloat. Each is about 70% advertisements, but they seem to have a damned lot of people on staff, not to mention printing costs. Sure would be hell to put together a good clone computer without them, though.
