In large quantities, it is probably a bad idea. But I send small quantities down all the time. I make sure the water is plenty hot, the garbage disposal is running and there is plentey of detergent going along with it.

I am aware of this...
just a quick google search shows I'm not crazy...however I'm not saying a little oil would hurt anything, just not a good idea to dump a deep fryer's worth down the drain

I know a those may not be that reputable, just showing that I didnt make up the "no oil down the drain" thing.
I mean, it's easy enough to dispose of properly, why risk dumping it down the drain.
