Disposing of a bad live round.

Got some Federal Premium .38 Special +P ammo today for the pistol. Looks like one of the boxes had a bad round in it. I hear some people saying just turn the round into the local PD but I'm not sure if thats truth or jest. Hoping that after some bullshitting around here that someone will present a worthwhile answer on what to do with it.

Live in Georgia if that makes any difference.

EDIT:

Comparison of a good round vs. the bad round here

The bullet is set back? Just toss it.

I kind of doubt putting a live round in the garbage bin is a legal move..

Who is going to know? Is there a law/ordinance that says you cannot dispose of it? You can also get a bullet pull and pull the bullet out of the casing if you choose.

Unless people routinely throw a firing pin into garbage trucks it shouldn't really be an issue.

There are boxes/cans for dud rounds at ranges.

I doubt he really wants to drive all the way to a range just to toss it into an amnesty box.

What happens when kids put a bullet on railroad tracks? 😛

What happens when those big steel rollers roll over said bullet if there's something hard under it? 😛

2 Pair pliers/vice grips FTW. Pull the bullet. Dump the powder into a house plant. Put empty primed case in cylinder. Discharge safely. Throw away.

Easy, safe, and legal for the win.

There's no gun range within a 100 miles here. Never been to one.

FYI its the grandparents house Martha Stewart 😉

Come on, with all the rednecks in the panhandle to the south, there's gotta be at least one.

You think rednecks bother with shooting ranges? A shooting range here is the back yard or a clay pit.
