VIACOM 400% rate hike

While some of you may be upset over loosing Nick at Nite, MTV, VH1, etc. I see this as a positive. Dish is fighting to protect the end consumer from higher rates. VIACOM is a greedy corporation.

For those affected, contact VIACOM and let them know how you feel.

Didn't Dish Network just raise their own rates like 10%?

Yeah, and on their home page they are ragging on cable for doing the same thing.

Greedy Corporation #1 vs Greedy Corporation #2

I see this happening a lot more in the future...

So if I am still under a contract, am I pretty much SOL?

**Edit**
From DishNetwork website FAQs:

Will I be allowed out of my programming commitment if these channels go dark?
All programming commitments will remain in effect at this time. DISH Network will monitor the duration of the loss of channels for further decisions made for this.

Yes, but in 2 more months, when your 1 yr contract is up, your rates will rise as well.

supply vs. demand. We needed something to fill the huge void due to the lack of Christianity threads this week as opposed to last week.:p

That's BS. Viacom just successfully negotiated new contracts with every other provider except Dish. The increase they want is 6 cents per customer per month. Dish just rasied my rates by $3.00. What did I get for that? Squat. I pay Dish almost $90/month and I'm sorry but I'll take a pass on Cheapo Charlie "protecting me" from a whopping 6 cent increase. You really think Dish is fighting to protect the consumer? LOL! Get real! Bottom line is Charlie doesn't want to foot the bill for what is a FAIR increase.

Dish has a week to work this out or I'm switching to DTV. Hell, I may even switch anyway since Dish has completely F'd up thier HD-PVR unit (the 921) and the DTV HD-TIVO is due out this month. Broke the news about this to my wife last night and I got my ass kicked ;) about missing Real World/ Road Rules and Survivor. I definitely don't need anymore of that!

I am sceptical anytime a company does something to "protect the consumers." It seems there is always some ulterior motive.

the reason dish is droping those channels is because its on thier Top50 plan which they have said will not go up in price till 2006 this being that way they rather just drop the channels

Is the Dish Network site down for anyone else right now?

I just wanted to check what my last few bills were (because I don't remember noticing any rate increase.)

Just a little FYI.. We just had dish network installed 2 days ago, without knowing this.. We were watching TV and the thing started scrolling, and right as it was about to say what was going on, a black bar covered it up :/ FASCISTS!! :)

did all markets lose CBS? I haven't been home today to check...anyone know?

If we lost CBS and don't have it back by the time the NCAA Basketball Tournament starts, i'm going to be FLAMING pissed.

For all of you affected in NC, why not ask John Edwards to help mediate this? I mean he seems to have a lot of free time now...

His congressional link

Info@JohnEdwards2004.com

EDIT:
I have sent this email to the several email addresses Senator John Edwards owns. I urge you all to do the same for your particular congressman.

Viacom and Dish Network are fighting about a rate hike that Viacom wants. Dish refuses and therefore Viacom yanks their programming. Read CNN.com for more details.

I am tired of these companies airing their dirty laundry across the airwaves. I am tired of seeing broadcasts modified by both parties, detracting from my enjoyment of the programming. I am furious that Dish won't let subscribers out of their contracts, even though we paid a $3 per month rate hike recently and now we are missing 10 of our basic subscription channels! You want to see a revolution in the streets? Tell Dish Network people they cannot see regional NCAA conference championships or any of the 64 teams in the big dance. March Madness? Yes, indeed.

If you want public opinion to be on your side. If you want to show people that you are presidential material. If you want to show that you truly fight for the common man, then you need to voice your dismay at this fight. You need to step in and mediate this issue. You need to protect consumers from being jerked around whenever corporations grab for more profits. You need to serve the interests of your constituency.

Thank you for your time.

Wow, this is getting down and dirty. Someone pass me the popcorn, this is the most entertainment I've got out of TV in years.:D
