You're 100% correct. Tonight on my drive home, I actually passed two neons - one SRT4 and one completly riced out neon (talking park bench spoiler, clear corners, 2F2F paint scheme and everything). If I was a state trooper, I'd radar the riced one first - even if they were going the same speed and I estimated they were breaking the speed limit. The spoiler on the SRT 4 is what gives it away - and even then it's actually better than that Cobalt SS spoiler.
didn't know the sti came in a wagon...neato hehe
According to the Subaru website, it doesn't. I was mistaken in my original post and edited it.

The new Cobalt SS would be stealthy too if you removed the wing. Same with that souped up neon dodge sells.

Edit: Apparnetly there's no STI wagon, my mistake. I could have sworn MT did a 1 year test on it.

Iv seen a wagon with a STI badge. Looked like it had the STI redoover to. Maybe it was like a one month thing :p Or maybe he just did some fancy badge work and put gold rims on his wrx wagon :)

AFAIK there has never been an STi wagon, at least not in the US.

Debadged STi sans wing would be my vote. Make it look as much as possible like a base Impreza.

Or, if you want the added protection a WRX wagon doesn't look like much to the uninformed (plus wagons are damn useful).

You asked for compacts but since Lancers and Imprezas have been mentioned, I will say the M3.

No way, not to your average person. The average joe wouldn't notice the big rims and dual exhausts immediately as being an M3

second gen cavalier. sky blue. wagon. 3.1Lv6.... I'm speaking from experience. I could speed anywhere with that thing, suprising people who werent even cops. My sister owns it now, and doesn't have the same luck. She had a few fender benders, which dimished the stealth quality it had. When cops see damage on a car, they seem to get suspicious that the driver isn't hte best in the world, and therefore monitor more closely.

discreet as in does not look fast but goes fast.
It's not as if the radar is analyzing a picture of your car to determine if it looks like it can go as fast as it is going. I drive a 1995 Geo Prizm and I can break any speed limit in the country with ease.
The radar gun requires that a human point choose its target. The simple fact is that police officers don't target every car with radar, they don't even target most cars. They generally blip conspicuous cars with "instant-on" radar.

My jump from a Subaru to an M3 had more to do with the OP asking for a compact rather than discreet...

Ah, well...you could have focused more on the car being a sports car instead of compact b/c the two usually go hand in hand.

edit: I guess they don't really, an m5 isn't too compact.
