Free Showtime or Cinemax for 3 months.
1 additional free receiver.

I have 2 120GB tivos's already.

One call 15 minutes later every time.

Thanks to whoever posted this, I called in, and it only took me 5 minutes. I told them I was thinking about changing to cable because they had some pretty good deals. They gave me $18 off a month for the next 6 months, plus HBO/Showtime free for 6 months... Great deal... Don't you just love competition...

 
I did the same thing, but they didn't care.. I mentioned I can switch to Time Warner Cable with HD-DVR for the same price as current package, and they said the can give me $200 off of HD receiver, which is $699. I said how is that compare to $7 per month on the cable HD-DVR? So they couldn't match anymore..

I am watching HD-DVR with 2 rooms for the same price.. TimeWarner currently has discount of $20 off per month of 1 yr. when you switch from satellite to cable.. sweet deal!
 
Just called them, no hold time at all with the direct number posted, they offered a few deals. most with a 1 year contract, I finally got 6 months 5 bucks off no strings attached.. better than nothing for 5 minutes work..

Dish is absolute crap. Mine drops about 5 times an hour (sometimes less, sometimes more) and says 'aquiring signal' during programs. It destroys recordings and is a bitch when your watching shows and miss critical parts. Many people have this problem, many people don't, its a luck of the draw but is clearly inferior equipment and signal quality on Dish Network's behalf.

I plan to switch to DTV as I had it a year or so ago before I moved and never had a problem with it, although it was 10 dollars more a month, sometimes you have to pay for quality.

I hate Dish.
 
I've just ordered directv last week for the chinese jadeworld programming, and the salesperson either didnt know what he was talking about or it was his last day at directv, he basically told me it would only cost me $36.99/mon for having up to 4 receivers, tivo included in that price, and he will throw in a free dvd player, 20$ credit to my account to cover the handling fee, free 2 months free....anyway, I knew that extra receiver cost $5 each(4.95 to be exact), and tivo is around $5/month too, so I asked him if there was any extra fees for having more than one receiver and tivo, and he said no, so I was sold at the point and had the whole system installed within 48hrs. Guess how pi$$ed I was when I tried to activate the account,and I was told all these extra fees...but I outsmarted them and ended up getting a good deal...

oh and on top of this, directv tivo is retarded, it requires 2 cables from the dish in order for the dual tuner to work correctly.

How is that retarded? To be able to record one channel and watch another, you need 2 seperate signals. I don't see the big deal.

comcast only needs one cable for their HD DVR unit. If your tv is at a location that you can't easily run an extra cable from the dish to it, then good luck having directv do that as part of the free "basic" installation. There is a stacker/dstacker device out there that can turn your one cable into 2, but it cost $200+, so technologically, it is possible to do it, and build this device into the unit, but directv took the easier and cheaper way out, and now all customers have to suffer.

Well, satelite has always needed a second cable to go to another receiver. You can't just split the cable like you can with cable TV. That's a limit of the technology, not Direct TV.
But you can buy a mulit switch for $50-60 on line, or $70 at CC. This allows you to "split" 2 satellite signals into 4 signals.
Oh, and the installer is supposed to run 2 seperate cables into the TiVo as part of the basic install. If he doesn't, then you are not getting the full install, and you need to call DirectTV and complain.

They installed it for free both when I first got TiVo, and then again when I moved.

It's a bit more complex than it appears. The LNB isn't a completely passive device. The receiver sends a voltage down the wire to the LNB to get it to tune to either even- or odd-numbered transponders. Without the two wires, you can't get a signal from both an even and an odd transponder. (At least, that's the generalization as I understand it.)

There are doodads you can buy, as others mentioned, to overcome this issue.

I know they'll give a discount on the HD receiver, so I'm sure you could apply that to a HD TiVo. Probably can get around $200 off, but the receiver will still be $400 then and is likely to be unusable in the near future when DTV moves to MPEG4 video.

Yeah, I got a bunch of perks when I got HDTiVo. I was an early adopter and got my HDTiVo over a year ago. I got it from CC and then called into DTV to get some perks. They gave me $20 off of platinum service for a year, free HDNet ($11/month) for 6 months, $200 service credit, and they came out and installed the 2 extra sat lines and the OTA antenna for free. On top of that, the installer came with the order to install a triple-LNB dish (which I already had) and a 4x8 mulitswitch (which I also had). I bargained that if he left the extra equipment I'd sign that he installed it. So now I have extra equipment and he got a couple hours off while "installing" that equipment. It's all about what you can bargain for. DTV gets their money from me though. We have 3 DTiVos and the HDTiVo and subscribe to everything. For my dollar I think DTV is the best thing going.

 
I am re-signing with DTV...I switched to Comcast for Broadband but it is not worth the hassle I have had with Comcast and their crappy HDDVR boxes. Half the time the boxes don't work. I have to reboot the box occasionally because it locks up. I have had programs set to record and they do not record. I 've switched out my box three times. Comcast has poor customer service. I had no trouble whatsoever while I was a DTV member.

True, that's why all the multiswitches take in two lines from the dish and offer 4 outputs. The multiswitch sets one input line to the odds and one to the evens. Then is can provide either transpoder set to the 4 outputs. My personal experience has been that there has never been an issue with DTV installs. Cable and DTV have disadvantages and advantges. The DTV tivo and HDtivo is superior to any cable DVR I've ever seen, but I suspect as time progresses the cable DVR's will catch up. Right now DTV offers less HD content but that's suppose to change in time. You should just look for the best deal in the area you live. Neither provider is really superior to the other.

GOOD ONE...free NFL... I doubt highly i heard they are giving some sort of discount but, more like $20/30 off NFL for new subscribers....

I've read Directv HDTV is fairly average(HDlite)...
So i'm getting HDTV from Dish they give you equiptment for free(year commiitment with 6 months free HDTV(including HBO/Snowtime for 3 months))...
Not $200 for the directv non dvr Hdtv receiver ...what a joke....

I did get $10 off for the next 6 months though...and I have NFL ticket...

I switched my Directv to the base Spanish package so at least with the discount i'll only have to pay $19 a month to watch my $200 worth of NFL games....
