I'm getting the new 5 LNB dish installed this weekend. Hopefully my guy is better than yours.

$150 non-refundable credit check? Never heard of such a thing.Originally posted by: Raduque
I hate DirecTV myself. They wanted to try and charge me a non-refundable $150 for a credit check. A CREDIT CHECK. This was directly from their website. I told them to shove it, after I called and found out it was non-refundable, and ordered Dish. The installer was awesome, he replaced the 2lnb with a 4lnb, crawled under the house in about 35f weather, and even hung around to make sure we were happy with it.

I've been a member since late 2001...bought a Tivo at BestBuy a couple months ago and replaced my bedroom reciever with it. It was a left over Phillips model for about $70. No rebate deal or anything included. After I initialized it, I discovered I was automatically signed into another two year contract. Called DTV and was told theres no way around it.
Perfect...right when I'm about to move halfway across the country into an apartment, this crap comes up. Theres like a $200 fee to cancel my service now.

Yeah, basically anytime you get new equipment its subsidized. I'm not even sure if you can buy new DTV equipment without a contract.
What really sucks is our DirecTIVO has been acting up...random freezes...and of course the new commitment is 2 years. 2 years ago when I bought this one it was only a one year commitment.

is Direct TV anything like DirecTV?

Be warned - the 5 lnb dishes weigh about 36 lbs, and require 3 bags of concrete to set the pole. Not to mention can pretty much only be pole-mounted. And if it's rainy that day, then they might have to come back after the concrete gets around to setting properly.
