I greatly prever tivo over the replay mutant thing that dish has. It's gotten a lot better, but still a lot less user friendly.

The only thing I like about the DVR522 is the multi room viewing thing, which is similar to MRV with a hacked DirecTivo.

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me there's a way I can get that Tivo to service two different rooms with separate channels like the 522 does??

Not if you have an R10. Given your recent switch you probably have an R10. Something else to consider is the Tivo DVR fee on your bill is a one time only fee. Dish charges the fee per reciever, with DTV you can have multiple Tivo's for no additional cost other than the mirroring fee.

DirecTV is better than Dish Network...

And to whoever said no one likes satelite TV and likes cable better, well that person is a complete idiot. (Cable comes in like pure sh!t, trust me, I'm looking at it now in my apartment)

This is true abou the DVR fee and yes my box is an R10. Oh well, I'm starting to get things arranged to my liking. Football season is going to rock this year. I expect this setup will grow on me as I get more used to it. I sure hope DTV releases an update that changes that menu/font thing. Above all else that bothers me the most.

Tivo is a dead end product at DTV. There will be no further updates to the DTivo's unless the R15 and subsequent DTV DVR's bomb.

I like my DirecTV except for the slow speed of switching channels. Also, the local ABC really really sucks, but that's not really their fault.

I'm pretty happy with my comcast 6214 HD-DVR. Two tuners, HD recording, no wait to sync with any damn satellites.

I've had Dish Network for about a year and a half now. No problems other than a receiver going out (lightning). It was replaced in about 3 days. Great service and support so far. I can't say the same for DirecTV.

Dish Network was a huge jump from the Adelphia Digital cable I had before. The picture quality is a lot better on Dish and the channel selection was a lot better.

Dish network is cheaper, and there is a way to get any local channel you want from almost any city for the football game that you want to watch. but that's illegal in the states.

You can't be serious.

I had Dish for about 4 months, then dumped it and went back to cable because I hated it. Stupid POS would lose signal at least once a day, then one of our boxes died and I had to wait a week or two to send it back and get a new one. Then one day our power went out and when it came back on, neither of our boxes would work. After spending 20 minutes on the phone being asked the exact same questions and going through the exact same steps 3 times, they said they'd have to send someone out and it would cost me like $50. WTF? It's their equipment and they are going to charge me to fix it? I told them to fvck off and I signed back up with Charter for cable. MUCH MUCH better service and the picture looks just as good as dish. I don't have an HDTV though. Maybe if I did, I'd notice better quality with Dish.

Comcast has a thing called a dish buy back, where they credit your account with 400 dollars for switching, there is no contract, and i think it is like money back Guarantee for the first month. If the promo is still going on, you will be paying like 39.00 a month for a bunch of channels, i dont remember which ones exactally, i know that 11 hbo channels were included. That seems like a good deal, I dont know, if you are interested, i can look for the flyer.

DirecTV walks all over DISH.

There are receivers with RF remotes. Most of them are RCA; I know because I own 4 of them (the DTC-210 I believe). These are HD receivers.

The only time our signal goes out is in heavy rain. If it is installed correct then you shouldn't have it going out unless there are some weather problems. I have noticed that our Super Dish seems to get rain fade more than the standard dish. Probably because its larger. Still the few mins I loose signal in heavy rain isn't terrible.

When I replaced a reciever they sent the new one out to me first (got it in about 3 days), with a prepaid UPS return label. You just call and give them the number of the new reciever and its fixed. All service calls are only $29.99 and thats if a tech has to come out. Parts are included, no matter what he has to fix or replace. We do pay the extra $6 a month for the warrenty though.

The only problem I have with Dish is upgrading to a DVR. When we signed up there wasn't any DVR promotions so we got the base model recievers. To upgrade one of our recievers to a DVR they want $200 to swap it out and you still don't own the reciever. $200 to swap out a reciever for a lease is horrible. I can purchase a reciever for a few bucks more, but I'm not sure if it would then be covered under the warrenty. Does anyone know if the Dish Warrenty covers purchased recievers or just ones you lease from them?

Anyway I don't have HDTV, and the picture quality was still a huge leap from the digital cable I had before.

Another forums for getting into your Tivo/DirecTivo is http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/
They will touch topics that tivocommunity won't. Tivocommunity maintains a closer relationship with Tivo so topics like extraction and turning off scrambling are taboo. Those topics are common at dealdatabase.

BTW, if it's a R10, you will need a physical PROM mod to do any of the cool stuff.

Just FYI for those that are saying DTV has no plans to continue development on the Tivo products... the deal is through 2007 and the 6.2 software they just released has home networking in there but turned off. Seems kind of strange they'd release the software prepped for expansion if they had no possible plans to enhance the service down the road.

BTW, I've had Dish and DTV and would never consider going back to Dish. I've never liked their equipment.
