If you want DX10 then buy Vista. Simple as that. I don't see why people would want it with XP. It probably wouldn't even be that good.
My keyboard battery is dying so have to stop typing.

People should have been forced to buy at least Windows 2000 if they wanted DX9 because Windows 98/ME were POS operating systems. The performance with DX9 has probabaly suffered because it was made compatible with POS Windows 98/ME.

"Wah wah wah..I got cramps...I hate this time of the month...it makes me angry about Win98!!!!!1one1eleven!!"

Can't you contribute anything decent to a thread?

That's only because Microsoft choose to design it only for POS Windows 9X back then. They should have made it for Windows NT first or some other good quality OS based on a quality native 32-bit arcitecture.

Microsoft should have wrote DX9 from ground up to make it compatible with only Windows 2000, Windows XP, and future NT based operating systems and above only!! That way POS Windows 98/ME could have been easily burried 4 years ago.

It breaks my heart to see that there isn't even a single version of DX that is only compatible with Windows NT based operatying systems, and doesn't force you to use Vista. That is sad because Windows 2000 and Windows XP are good opertaing systems and deserve to have an independent native DX version that won't stand a chance to work on POS Windows 98/ME.

Personally, this is a big driving force behind me getting Vista, I've heard about the astronomical performance increases and definatly think it'd be worth it. But it would be nice to see a version of this for XP (even if its scaled back) because people will still be using XP for quite some time all because its stable enough to keep going. Still though, it seems as though XP may have just gotten left out in the cold all by itself..poor XP...

This argument has been done to death several times - stop bringing it up. No-one is interested in your childish rants about Windows 9x.

Those performance increases must not of made it into the last beta I downloaded.

Because it bothers me deeply that DX9 was released for POS Windows 98/ME and that DX10 won't be released for a good quality OS like Windows XP.

Just discouraging!! Windows 98/ME should have died the painful death they deserve a long long time ago!!

"it bothers me deeply" ??? do you have any idea how that makes you sound like.
and that DX10 won't be released for a good quality OS like Windows XP.
Well lets not go overboard here. You'r problam is you use win98 as a reference point for XP, use solaris as a reference point and then will see exactly just how "good quality" XP is.

And btw, next time i see you bring up win98 in a thread that doesnt have anything to do win98 i will PM a mod and ask for a tmp ban, maybe if enough ppl will do that we can get rid of you.

DX10 is Vista dependent.

And for the record, I tried something and it did not work. With a stuck record or DVD, you can whack the player and it will somethings then go on. Does not work with Link19. I whacked the monitor and he still keeps repeating himself. I think I will try the ethernet cable next.

For Link, how many times does it have to be said? DX10 is dependent on Vista's driver model.

Then why couldn't there have been a verison of DirectX that depends on the driver model of Windows 2000/XP only?

Double the work for no good reason?

Wouldn't it have been easier because thye wouldn't have had to make it compatible with multiple operating system architectures?

I can imagine Link19 in a bar drunk telling people. WHY OH WHY DID THEY MAKE SO MANY VERSIONS FOR THE WIN 9X SERIES BUT ONLY ONE FOR THE NT SERIES. WHY OH WHY.

It would still be two trees to maintain which is double the work that they have now.

*sniff sniff*

I smell a loser in this thread and he beats off to the Windows 98 "Getting Started" manual

Name the loser?

🙂

You could always go to Microsoft headquarters and blow it up, if that makes you feel better😕

They should have designed more of DX9 from ground up to make it Windows 2K/XP only!!!

Either way, DX9 should have been for Windows 2k/XP only!!

I hope to see some verison of DX that is for Windows 2K/XP only and doesn't require Vista before the release of DX10. Maybe a DirectX 9.1 or 9.0L?

Please, I want a version of DirectX that doesn't require Vista, but IS NOT at all compatible with POS Windows 98/ME!!

A 2K/XP only DX would have been great!!! Lets see DX 9.0L or whatever other version of DX that comes before DX10 on Vista HAVE ZERO chance of working on POS Windows 98/ME.

There was an article about a new version of DirectX before DX10 which would require Vista.

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=26220

Any ideas and possible hope that this will come out and be for Windows 2000/XP only and not work at all on POS Windows 98/ME??
