The HPFP thing for the VAG 2.0t is weird, it only seems to affect people in certain areas of the country. I know they used to have problems with the 1st gen TFSI engine and injectors but then they switched to a different pump/injector and thats the last I heard of it. There was a huge post about it on MKVgti but it was just people wondering what if and not that it actually happened to them.
The 2.0T diesel on the otherhand is different, but it seems to be a problem with US diesel quality rather than the vehicle itself. The TDI was supposed to be released as an 08 model but something about extreme variances in diesel quality throughout the US made them redesign the system specifically for the US market. There are still some quirks to work out with it. There have been problems with rusting pumps because of moisture in the diesel fuel, the only real fix for it is to try and get fuel from stations that have a high turnover rate, or use additives or something.
Interestingly enough I haven't known anyone thats had a bum fuel pump on a 335i, and I know about 20 or so people that have them. (Including one girl that got her first oil change at 19k and puts regular gas in it)
