am confused how this dc project works,how do i upload my result??

Until they get this UDP / ICMP bug fixed, my stats will be pretty worthless. My main crunchers don't produce using UDP (router/firewall problems) . The DIMES Forum says they're working on it. Time will tell.

I'm a newbie to this myself ,so my answers are limited atm ,results are automatically uploaded
I believe Dimes works by sending 'tracerts' & tracking where the info goes (ISP,country & IP)

How does the Internet look like? How does it evolve?

DIMES is a distributed scientific research project, aimed to study the structure and topology of the Internet, with the help of a volunteer community (similar in spirit to projects such as SETI@Home).

Due to the way the Internet is engineered, distributing the Internet mapping effort is very important, and the only efficient way to measure the Internet structure is by asking you to participate. What we ask is not so much your CPU or bandwidth (which we hardly consume), but rather, your location. The more places we'll have presence in, the more accurate our maps will be. Understanding the structure and function of the Internet is an important research task, that will allow to make the Internet a better place for all of us.

The DIMES agent performs Internet measurements such as TRACEROUTE and PING at a low rate, consuming at peak 1KB/S. The agent DOES NOT send any information about its host's activity/personal data, and sends ONLY the results of its own measurements. Aside from giving a good feeling, running the DIMES agent will also provide you with maps of how the Internet looks from your home (currently) and will (in the future) provide you with a personalized 'Internet weather report' and other user-focused features.

I read a little about this when I tried to get a linux client to work. The problem seems to be to get the client to work with JAVA. You can parhaps see more in this thread at the DIMES-forum.

Question for you Dimers.

I know that sliding the "time between measurements" bar all the way to the left increases the amount of measurements, but does changing the information speed slider affect output?

You may have to go into agent\properties\network and have it check if udp or imcp is blocked.

i was stuck on 2 nodes or whatever for a while. i don't think it makes much difference.

You may have to go into agent\properties\network and have it check if udp or imcp is blocked.

i checked that. UDP and imcp both have a red circle which i presume means means there blocked. client still has not made a single measurement or found a node. i'm running it as root, the routers firewall is tuned off and i'm in the DMZ. as far as i'm concerned the linux client is borked, i'm going shu it off and delete it tonight

I will run this project and SoB, which I've been running for a couple of months now, 24/7. I am on Case Western Reserve University Fiber Optic Internet access (not sure of the exact bandwidth figures yet), but I should be doing pretty well for myself and the rest of the TeAm.

My handle is BOLt11 for this and SoB.
