AMD is ready to unveil its next-generation GPU architecture, Polaris, in June at the earliest for release in the third quarter. With Nvidia also expected to launch its Pascal GPU architecture at about the same time, sources from the upstream supply chain expect a wave of replacement demand to occur in the second half.

The Polaris architecture will be manufactured on Globalfoundries or Samsung's 14nm FinFET processes and is equipped with its fourth-generation GCN architecture, and support for HDMI 2.0a and DisplayPort 1.3.

Currently, AMD only has a share of around 20% in the discrete graphics card market for desktops and is hoping Polaris will help it regain lost market share.

Nvidia is expected to unveil its Pascal architecture at the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) 2016 in April, and will announce GTX 1080/1070 GPUs in June for an official release in the third quarter. Mainstream Pascal-based graphics cards will become available in the fourth quarter.

Pascal is now rumored for May which would put them upwards of 6 months ahead of Polaris

That's strange, I thought the rumors were: Pascal is launching in April, with GP100 destroying everything, so powerful it blocks out the sun. It would also put them upwards of 18 months ahead of Polaris, because maths.

Too many rumors to keep track of these days. :/

About the same time equals 6 months ahead...

Yes!

Please, tell me more Game Dev, I love your insights!

When is Polaris releasing?
How much faster will the 1080Ti be than the Fury X Ultimate?
Also, when will Nvidia do well in DX12 games?

Didn't AMD already state "back to school" as the release? That is in the fall. Unless it's a paper launch, it could be later.

When in fall will AMD release so that it is 6 months behind Pascal if Pascal is releasing in May?

A May launch will be great for us. It will probably kill AMD but there is probably no avoiding that. This puts NVIDIA ahead by upwards of 6 months.

May + 6 months = November/December time frame. Lol.

Yes, they did. They said that mobile Polaris will come for back to school frametime.

I'm reporting you for this post, Polaris is at least 6 months behind Nvidia. So there is no way this is possible. You're lying. Game_Dev told me so.
The real date is 12/14 for this demo, that's when Polaris releases, 6 months after Nvidia's May release of Pascal.
Look closely... you will see wood screws.

Now, these will be shown @Capsaicin, and everyone knows it takes 70-73 days before these become ripe.

This is where the rumor comes from.

It doesn't say nVidia on it anywhere.

If I recall correctly, the release date of Pascal is rumored to be the 27th of May, so a June release for Polaris could place it less than a week after Pascal, but no more than a month anyway (as opposed to basically 2 months, if Pascal was released on the 1st of May).

2 months? You're wrong, Polaris is 6 months behind:

The article said release in the 3rd quarter, which could be the end of September. Unless there is a delay, like with Fury X2. June would just be a paper launch. I said upto a 6 month lead, but it's clear they are well ahead and this could push AMD's market share below 10%

Ah I see. So now, upwards of 6 months has changed?
What's your new crystal ball telling you?

It could be end of September.
Could be 6 months from May.
Could be June, but just a paper launch in June.

Can Polaris launch in July?

Also, how much faster will Pascal be than Polaris?

I wouldn't get too concerned over a rumor about Pascal's launch, it is just a rumor. Didn't JHH just get caught recently holding a mock up Pascal part? And now they're launching in two months? I don't buy it. Also, Pascal's launch has nothing to do with AMD demoing Polaris in June.

The article also stated: "Nvidia [...] will announce GTX 1080/1070 GPUs in June for an official release in the third quarter."

So when talking about nvidia we consider them to be in the best possible situation according to the rumors and when talking about AMD as the worst possible? It seems as though the article is stating that both are going to paper-launch their new cards, sadly.

Either way, I'm starting to wonder if you really are a bot (and not just a troll).

Seems unlikely anyone is going to have a big advantage.

They've both had ages to prepare these things with the 20nm cancellation, have plausibly mature processes to use them on and look relatively likely to be delayed by the memory processes they both want to use.
(No, the processes aren't mature but its a lot better than being first customers!).

I'm not sure why AMD supporters feel the need to constantly insult people they disagree with. If you go to the Pascal thread the latest info is May.

I sure hope Nvidia isn't late to release Pascal in May. I wouldn't want to have to explain to my customers why I'm delaying. Hopefully they release before AMD like you say they will. It would be a huge blunder for Nvidia to say they'll release before AMD, then release afterwards.

Edit: But yes, Nvidia is launching in May according to latest rumors, and I won't be surprised if Nvidia is first to market. This doesn't seem to be a complex design, it seems to be more of the same, with just a node shrink. I always expect NVidia to play it smart. I won't be surprised if Nvidia capitalizes on being first to market again, even if the product isn't as fast as the competition. People won't sell their GTX 1080 for Polaris if Polaris is faster. It'd have to be 25% faster for people to do that in droves, and I doubt that will happen. FIRST to market is the most important thing.

You can't sell what you don't have to sell. And gamers are impatient and don't like to wait. For how long have we got shoddy results from Preordering games? Yet we still do it, because, OMG I need to pledge my money to this game ASAP, or I won't get it (Not like you can't buy it digitally the day of... no, we need it PRELOADED at EXACTLY midnight to play it). So if anyone thinks the vast majority of gamers have the mental stamina to wait for both GPUs to be out to evaluate them you're kidding yourself.

Nvidia first to market, expect AMD to be in 10% marketshare just like Game_Dev says.
Polaris first to market? Expect AMD to do well.
