Do you already own a certain type of memory like Sony type or compact flash ?

If so you might want to keep that in mind when you do purchase a new camera so you don't have to shell out more $$'s for a different type or new memory.

i got the sony t-1 for xmas as an upgrade for my canon digicam. I was HIGHLY dissapointed in picture quality. i would not reccomend this camera to anyone. So bad that i took the 15% restocking fee and returned it for a canon SD300. its small, light and takes GREAT pics. get that one.

I didn't realize such nice cameras can be had for even $300 these days... Yay for technological advancements. I still remember when I bought my Kodak DC280 for $450 around '01.

if you feel the need to splurge, go ahead and get the SD series, like SLU MD recommends. The S500 is a great deal though

Canon S500 (5MP) is only $300 for limited time at Amazon.com. Clearing old stock to make room for the SD400 and SD500.

I really like the SD400 coming out.

Also take a look at HP's R707 camera, it has a really cool panorama feature.

It can be found for <$300
