its is much better then all thoes you listed, its not much bigger either the the A95 anyway

Fuji should have included a AF assist lamp. I would have bought the 510 if it werent for that. And the longest shutter availble is 2 seconds I think.

yes too few cams have a AF assist lamp but its becomming more common, and when was the last time you made a grater the 2 sec exposure with your P&S digital cam? my Oly 720UZ will do up to 8 secs and i plaied with that on 2 night, hell the D70 can do up to 6 hours, ive hardly used that feature either, i have done some 10 sec ones,

I've done several 10 second and a lot of 5 second ones. One of the pics I submitted used 5 second shutter.
But yeah, it depends on the person. I made my decision around the manual and other features and not the brand. If all hes looking for is a point and shoot with auto everything, half the cameras listed here is overkill.

Explanation from sullys site

from this, i think i am in the market for an A-series.

Also how much quality differance is there between a 3.2 mega pixel and a 5 mega pixel..? would i notice in a 1600x1200 picture?

3 megapixels, 10x optically stabilized zoom, video recording up to 1 gig at a time, no time limit.
Hope it shoots video better than stills...

Dude, why do you keep ragging on Adul's camera so much?

This is the exact camera that Brunswick is all horned up about buying, and the fanboys are patting him on the back and saying, "Yeah, go for it!" Yet, when the machine needed to come through, it let him down. The true life results are right there for all to see, not some test images by Phil Askey or Steve's Digicams. BTW, where's your pile of wondrous "A series" images from the wedding?

yea thats what i originally thought, but Ornery seemed like he was talking about the poor quality of the A-series so i was unsure.

"Wait these pics were taken from an A-series? or a S series?"

Of all the techno nerds who attended Anand's wedding, those are the only images I've seen! There must have been a bunch of digital cameras there, including Brandon's A70, yet I ain't seen a one...

I also liked the Sony DSC-V1 but I am not too sure about Sony's propeitary memory stick. Also i know it supports an external flash but will it still take good pictures without it?

How much differance is a 3.2 megapixel and a 5 megapixel when it comes to quality on a 1600x1200? is it noticeable?

thanks for your help guys.

When you go to a once in a lifetime event, like a wedding, do you really care if the media cost a few bucks extra? Do you care if the camera cost $400 instead of $300? Do you care if it can shoot video at all? Bells & whistles ain't worth a damn, if it can't perfom its primary function consistantly, IMO.

im pretty sure that camera can take good pics, dont blame it because Adul cant use it correctly

Maybe so, but I'm beginning to see a pattern, along with my own experience with the S50. The point I'm trying to drive home, is that any camera over $300.00 ought to handle point & shoot duty pretty well, don't you think? A good photographer can get decent results with almost any camera, but it takes a great camera (read, expensive) to be fool proof, and sometimes not even then!

Post 'em in the stickied topic, Brandon.

The S60 and S70 have SUBSTANTIAL pic taking problems:

1.) Vignetting (dark corners in pic): DO this test. Take a shot with and then without flash at widest zoom 3,4,5 feet from a white wall. Download them onto the computer for analysis. You'll see such substantial vignetting as to totally make this camera not worth buying. Despite it otherwise good picture taking qualities.

2.) Purple Fringing: While many small sensor digital cameras have this issue in one degree or another in high contrasty environments, these 2 Canon models excel at fringing at all levels of zoom.

3.) Pincushioning & Barrelling: Also marked, but can be somewhat forgiven.

Fringing and Vignetting are unacceptable at this price-point however.

Avoid at all costs until Canon get this fixed on future models.

all of these problems are HIGHLY overblown - none are substantial problems that will result in an unusuable picture. the pros of the s60/70 (lens range for one) far outweigh the cons.

The rest of my Anand wedding photos are in a DVD in my closet. Besides, I'd ask Anand before I posted pics anyway (maybe that's why you haven't seen many).

see someone knows how to use the flash

Are you talking about the pic that Adul took, or the two pics I took yesterday? 😉

Can personally attest the A80 takes excellent dimly lit/completely dark photographs. Purchased an A80 for an older relative (she's in her 60s, and as inexperienced as a user can possibly be) who took quite a number of truly amazing shots at a recent block party.

Was shocked at the quality considering her experience level, and the fact the camera was set to the automatic settings.

Yes the Canon A series is great. I bought an A60 for the inlaws...they love it.
