Diffuser for 580EX II

Just picked up this SBM diffuser for my 580EX II Speedlite.

I put it on and took this quickie wide angle shot. It spreads the light fairly well, and will be useful in the gadget bag.

i need to get a diffuser i cant decide a thing on top of the flash or a reflector thing. Sometimes the wall is way too high that you cant bounce, its easier with a local bounce.

I like the design of my flip-it since it puts light forward instead of throwing light everywhere. Wastes less flash power and still diffuses very nicely.
 
OK - yeah, Odin, the white balance is whatever - not part of the test at this point (set for daylight.) I'm just dealing with light distribution now. 🙂

I deleted the previous images to make room for this puppies. I tried to cover the various modes. All the shots were from the same position.

First, flash with the SBM Diffuser aimed directly at the fireplace.

Second, the bare flash aimed at the fireplace:

Third - the built-in spreader in the 580EXII:

Fourth is with the spreader and flash at a 45 degree bounce with the white card extended:

Fifth and last is the same 45 degree bounce with the SBM diffuser attached:

I had to delete a lot of files in order to make room for these. 🙂
 
I got a similar stofen clone off ebay. Seems to me the 60 degree bounce stofen suggests works quiet well in a lit room.
 
I think the bounce effectiveness relates to how high the ceiling is in the room. For a normal ceiling height, it probably would be very good.
