The Obama administration didn't make a big deal, they simply applied the law properly and some sources appeared to intentionally misrepresent the situation or at least fail to understand this was not about being anti-Catholic or something.I'm saying it won't happen. Who would be a big enough idiot to charge a priest with giving mass when the priest is a contract employee? No one, the only difference is the Obama Administration made a big deal about it in his 2013 shutdown. Selective? Hell yes, you're the one who's supporting the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens, not me.
Realistically the contract priest might have been conceivably fired or suspended (more likely suspended since the Obama admin would not like the politics of excessively cracking down either) for violating the rules, with the main real consequence occurring for the supervisor who is probably a true member of the military and not supposed to allow this. (Its not like the priest's long term career would be working for the military and they are going to be on the street otherwise.) Now technically speaking there could theoretically be a situation where the priest was designated an unauthorized personnel to enter the base for the duration of the shutdown and intentionally created a scene by trying to force their way in anyways, but obviously the Obama administration would have tried to avoid making it a criminal matter if they possibly could avoid it.
