50-70 in ~4-5 seconds

Just admit you got ripped off and I'll stop bugging you.

No way is any Honda Civic with a manual trans going from 50-70 in 4 seconds in top gear, imo. Going to have to do a fuel hogging downshift.

Yup the reason why people like diesels is their drivability...

Cruising along at 2000rpm the 2.0L TDI produces 100 BHP at WOT, the 2.5L NA petrol only produces 50 BHP at WOT...

(sorry the graphs aren't exact, we don't have the 2.5L in the UK, so I chose the "best" 2.5L dyno chart I could find which starts at 2500 rpm).

(Also please note that the units are different... and why the hell are APR using ft/lb instead of ft.lbf??)

That is a good comparison actually. As for the APR chart; they just labeled it wrong like most people in America seem to do.

However, if you're comparing drivability the best engine available in the US for a Jetta is the 2.0T. Just as much torque (or more when tuned) and more power in general.

You post links to Youtube videos that everyone debunks as stupid and cry "integrity"? LMAO!

I tried out the APR tune for the 2.0 TDI engine, I beg to differ.

(Coming from a previous GTI owner) 🙂

Really? Ive never personally driven a TDI (chipped or stock) but ive ridden in stock TDIs and they dont feel nearly as quick as the 2.0T (especially now that i got tuned)

Off the line the TDI is a bit quicker (gearing + diesel) but it runs out of steam pretty quickly if you leave it in auto for fuel econ. If i'm shifting myself then I can get it to go pretty quick.

Post tune I had to leave it in auto otherwise I would just spin, lol. Its dropping like 300 tq at 1200 RPM or something retarded like that. I decided not to chip permanently because my 550-600 miles per 13 gallons of diesel went to 500ish, it was just way too fun to play with.

If I want that kinda power, i'll trade it in for a 5.0

Update:

Well it looks like I ran into a bit of good luck. The dealer who I leased the car from called me up and wants to know if they can buy my car off of me. They received a call from an insurance company with a customer who wrecked their 2009 TDi. Apparently I have the exactone with specs that customer wants and the dealership wants to know if they can buy me out from the lease.

I have like 14 or so months remaining and this seems like a great thing since I am 6k miles away from my limit, something that has me worried.

I think I'm gonna do it and slip into a new Jetta TDi but next year get some cheap rims with snow tires. I never had a dealer terminate my lease and buy the car out from me. Any advice?

Yeah, if the terms are agreeable to you and they don't try and stiff you why not?

Dunno if I would get a new Jetta though, they aren't being overly warmly received. A Golf (can get them with 4 doors) has this same TDI engine, but on the older (and better) platform which was similar to what was under the car your in now. Plus the interior would be an improvement over the new Jetta, basically an updated version of what your in now.

edit: and the VW Vortex would probably be a good place for you to find some cheap wheels to stick snow tires on. Could probably get some stockers people just don't want.

Mind sharing what you have heard?

He's probably talking about VW's long standing reputation of making unreliable vehicles. They're the European version of Chrysler. Most complaints seem to be about electrical problems and sensors. Power mirrors stop working, heated seats stop working, seat adjustment stops working. Little goofy things like that.

People just feel it's a downgrade in terms of quality from the previous gen. The suspension, in the rear at least, has gone to a more rudimentary form and thus it's hardly entertaining to drive. The interior gets the most flack as they've gone to hard plastics all around, a downgrade from before. All of this with barely any price savings to the customer. The fact that you can get a TDI in it, is really it's only saving grace. It's been Americanized basically. This is why I recommend the Golf as it maintains the ride and interior quality, while allowing you to get the TDI and with no real price premium over a Jetta (might even be cheaper, I haven't looked).

From C&D review:

But there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and that means the 2011 Jetta has had to make some concessions. One very obvious compromise can be seen its dashboard material. Whereas the previous car had soft-touch, nicely grained plastics that were comparable to those of the Mercedes-Benz E-class, the new model has hard plastic that wouldn’t look too out of place in a Chrysler Sebring. The design itself is straightforward and handsome, but the hard plastic shines as if slathered with Armor All. Less obvious cost cutting includes the loss of adjustability for the center armrest, a lack of lumbar adjustment in most models, no more power-reclining seatbacks, and a simpler stability-control program that can no longer be shut off or even reduced. All models besides the top-spec GLI return to a torsion-beam solid rear axle, and the bottom two trim levels (S and SE) have rear drum brakes instead of discs. The news gets worse. Electric power steering is replaced by hydraulic power steering on non-GLI models, the hood no longer is held open by gas struts, and the compact gas-strut four-bar linkage that held open the previous Jetta’s trunk has been replaced by goose-neck-style hinges that intrude into the trunk compartment. Volkswagen clearly thinks the typical Civic or Corolla buyer won’t miss—or even notice—the lack of these items.

Fuck VW for destroying the Jetta, its seriously shit now. They're going to do the same with the rest of their lineup to in the near future, its inevitable.

Oh well, guess my next car will be a Ford 🙂

Honestly the upper trim Jettas are not as bad as people have made it seem. Also the new GLI is the same interior as the GTI. It was nice to see the new GLI looking that good

Its still a huge difference compared to my 2010. One of my biggest beefs was the driver door handle on the inside that was just a huge piece of hard shiny black plastic, no thanks.

The rest of the lineup is still good, but lets see what they do with it.

So it was just anounced that we will be getting the Mercedes-Benz E250 BlueTEC 4matic sedan in Canada. It will be the 2.2 Litre twin turbo diesel engine. 190hp 369 lb/ft torque. For any one who has been waiting for a AWD diesel sedan this is it!

Look for it at Mercedes in Richmond B.C fall this year.

If you want more details on it message me and I can keep you up to date.
