Hello.

Say you ordered something from Dell (an LCD). Checked the online status and it says it won't ship for another 3 weeks. Then you call and cancel the order. You check the status online and it says "cancelled". A couple of days later you receive a Dell package (an LCD), apparently from the manufacturer (say... Planar?). You call Dell and tell them you want to return it... the CSR says "the order was cancelled, I don't see what you want to return". You go back to the online status again, and it shows the tracking number and ship date... but there's no invoice or anything.

What would you do?

I sit and be quiet about it. Consider it a free in home trial.

But it happened to me once, their records caught up and 6 months later, I got charged from a company for something I bought 6 mo ago but they said it never shipped.

Yup.

You tried to do the right thing, but apparently, they don't want it back. I am sure an LCD to them is nothing.

Enjoy the gift!:D

I'd keep it, they make enough profit. You tried to do the right thing, and they thought you were stupid. If you don't want it, sel it on ebay.

Keep it and if they try to charge u 6 month latter dispute the charges with your cc

well, maybe there is a reason the company is failing....

You didn't answer my question, your reasoning is very poor.

Let me rephrase that.

If the company was not making a huge profit, would you return it ?

Am I the only motherfvcker that would send it back?

No, I would, apparently there are a lot of dishonest people here, company or not, it's not your property.

I didn't? If the company consistantly makes mistakes like this, refusing to allow a customjer to retun somehting, then there must be a reason why the company is failing, be it poor managment or workes and supervision. The list could go on. If I tried to return somehting, and they told me I couldn't, reguardless of the company, I'd be like oh well, you're loss. But, I was saying they make so much money that I wouldn't feel guilty about it. You tried, what else can you do? Why should you waste your time for their mistake?

Although I'd probably tell somebody to keep it, I'd feel too guilty about getting it for free.

Wow, some of you guys really have no morals. He called, not to do the right thing, but to not get screwed. When they said ship what back, he could have said 'i think your computer is messed up, because you guys did ship me a monitor.' But he didn't, so now he's asking if it's ok to keep it. Of course not, and it will be billed eventually.

And to think, i'm the one with a criminal past.

So I assume you would return it if the company was failing ?

You didn't answer his question... so you would keep it if the company was failing as well?

No.

I would go out of my way to return it, but only to a point.

I don't think I would pay for return shipping, so if they were too dense to send me a label I'd tell them it was their loss.

That is, of course, presuming I wasn't billed - Which he will be, just give them time.

Got Ethics?

Send an e-mail with details including tracking # of the shipping to customer service. Make them pay for return shipping, but keeping it is theft even if you aren't caught.

what if you had to pay for shipping? So now you not only got somehitg you didn't want, but you have to pay to give it back to them? Unless you didn't open it and put return to sender, shipping an LCD could be expensive.

That would be subsidizing an obviously uncompetitive company that should, within the capitalistic paradigm, go out of business.

So what you're saying is that it's okay to steal as long as the victim is rich? :disgust: :|
Dizway, the proper action is to return it if you do not want it or do not want to pay for it. I had a similar circumstance with a buy.com order last year (albeit a much less expensive item than an LCD). I wanted the item, kept it, and waited. As I figured they would, they corrected their error 2 months later and charged me.

edit: btw, my first post in this thread was a joke (notice the :p ), as I considered the proper choice of action obvious.
