Huh, ok yeah, I never officially registered, apparently by the date, I was registered as I was joining the Navy... so, it really didn't matter.

Yes - and I will probably never be called on. Black Water is all up in the conflicts killing teh brown people left and right. So, there is no need for me to spill any blood.

Aren't you ineligible to collect social security if you never registered? I thought I read that somewhere.

I registered when I turned 18.

They had been telling us for a year in school we would have to. I can't understand anyone not knowing this is required. It's also the law.

For you to miss this in high school you must have been totally checked out.
I don't remember hearing about it in high school, although admittedly I had somewhat checked out by senior year, LOL. I never really talked to the counselors about college and financial aid and stuff like that, I'm sure it would have come up in those kind of conversations. But there weren't assemblies or announcements on the intercom or anything like that about it that I remember.

Doesn't matter, though, I was registered when I signed up to vote.

Something registered me four months after my 18th birthday. I have no idea what that was, I know it wasn't me.

I registered because I had to for federal student loans/grants. :\

I wasn't called up and probably never will be - I think if they ever do re-institute the draft they take the youngest people first.

I registered, though I don't remember much other than the fact that I did it. I'd pretty much forgotten completely about it, cause the topic doesn't exactly come up much. At the time I just considered it a checkmark so people don't consider you un-American later, but I didn't know it was required for federal student aid and all the rest lol. I'd not dodge a draft if it were to come up, but at the same time I've never really considered it a possibility.

I knew I registered, but apparantly I did it fairly late. The date has me doing it about 7 weeks after I turned 18.

I'm pretty distraught about this. I'm a 34 year-old school bus driver, and it's not hard to guess that this isn't what I want to do with my life. I have always struggled to find motivation to make something of myself, or even figure out what I really wanted to do with my life. I've always been in awe of the US National Parks, and after recently talking to someone that has worked with the NPS for the past 4 years, it just made sense that that would be perfect for me. Knowing that I would start at the bottom, and do the most menial tasks, at first, would be fine, and I'd be content with that. More than content in fact.

I don't want to go to war anymore than the next computer nerd does, but I never intentionally avoided signing up. In fact, who would do such a thing if they had a full understanding of how permanent the consequences are/were?

If something like this is mandatory, required by law, then why do they even make it seem like an option? Why isn't registration automatic? I read above where someone mentioned that they were automatically registered when they got their license. I know that I received at least 2 different licenses between the ages of 18 and 26, so why wasn't I registered then?

I was trying to think of an analogy earlier, and I came up with this:

It's like sending someone to hell for not asking Jesus to forgive them of their sins, when they only had a vague idea of who Jesus was, and certainly wasn't aware of the consequences of not doing so.

Yup. According to that website in the OP, I registered 5 days after my 18th birthday in January 2001.
