Did you play Unreal and/or Quake 2?

Why would I ask there? That section of the forum is for a wide range of software. This is Video Cards. What else are video cards used for?

Unreal was great at the time.
UT was the bomb! (especially with the s3 textures enabled from the second disk)

Quake 2 was ok.
Q3 was a cartoon, but I still kicked butt.
Shooter

I STILL play Q2 online! 😛

IMO, still one of the best MP games ever. Q3 is too cartoonish for me. We'll see about doom3.

Slash [MHz] 😉

I finished both Quake 2 and Unreal years ago,I don`t play them anymore except for UT,UT2003/2004 and Q3 Arena and Team Arena online.

🙂

IMO Q2 has the best multiplayer of any game. Best weapons, user created models and maps etc. People seem to be into realistic weapons now, but the weapons, speed, can gameplay in Q2 has yet to me matched. Rocket Arena 2 and Chaos rocked.

Never finished either in single player, though I feel Unreal had some cool moments, like the first time you run into that Dreadlocked dude in the hallway, or when you see the Titan (or whatever the giant was called) for the first time and he chucks boulders at you.

If you want something old school to play, check out SiN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....just patch it up first.

Better yet why dont you go to Gamespot forum or just butt out if you have nothing to contribute. To answer the question yes and still do. The oldies never die.

Yes I played Unreal and Quake2. I stopped playing Single when I learned of UT and this had me consumed until RTCW. Now ET is game of choice. Who knows, ut2004 might take that away....

Quake 2 is a great game but it shows its age with its graphics, which right now are quite bad. Unreal is the base of UT and I believe it looks better with all the maps and graphics. Definetly the best graphics of its time several years ago and plot only beaten by half life.

If you want a good single player plot then I sugest you play both.

never played unreal, was into RTS at the time i think

but unreal tournament i found much more enjoyable than UT2K3....what a great game. and the flak cannon didnt suck in it.

IMO I would like it if the Admin made gaming part of this forum instead of software. Pretty much what 95%+ of our conversations come down to is gaming in Video(which card runs which games or which features certain games use better, which cards features make games look the best etc), to me it would make a lot more sense to see threads about FarCry, HL2 and DooM3 mixed in with threads about NV40/R420 performance then it does seeing it mixed in with questions about permissions access under a WXP LAN setup.

I installed Q2 yesterday. IT was weird going to Polycount and getting all the cool models. I didn't see anyone on any of the servers so I hopped on one and 5 people jumped on right after! It was a lot of fun, I didn't even mind getting my arse kicked. NO stupid steam updates, no cheaters, no admins using lightning or whacks, no one accusing people of cheating after every frag. Ahhh..the good ole days.

The graphics didn't look that bad considering its age. The only thing it needs is update particle effects.

I liked Q2 and Unreal when I first played them.

I got Q2 when it first came out in 97. I played the first half in software mode because my Creative 3D blaster video card could not run openGL. About halfway through the game I ordered a voodoo1 and installed it. Wow what a difference that made. Although the graphics are dated by todays standards the game is not that bad if you just want a game to play. I recently replayed the entire game about a year ago and it wasn't bad.

When Unreal came out I held off from getting it at first because I knew I needed a computer upgrade to play it decent. At the time I was using a Cyrix 166+ and a Voodoo1 so I went out and bought a P2 400 computer and threw my Voodoo1 in it and bought Unreal. I really liked the graphics and some may say the story was lacking but the eye-candy made up for that. I also replayed Unreal all the way through about a year or two ago and found it to still be interesting.

Cool. Thanks for the replies.

I just ordered Unreal Gold from Ebay.

Waiting for the Quake II on Ebay to end.

(IIRC it was the Q2 'Quad Damage' pack or something like that)
Yes it was and I picked up a copy just before it went out of print. These days the only way to get Quake II is to pick up the Ultimate Quake pack which has all three Quakes in a bundle together.

Don't forget to pick up the newest OpenGL renderer for it as it runs much faster than the Direct3D one does.

the UT game engine is the best game engine ever imho
it just keeps evolving and being used in other games and with different modifactions
it always supports opengl and directx well, and also most likely to be a version that will run in linux

unreal tournament ctf is my favorite
