Well, it's more like around $35k since around $15k of the 50 is for Mikimoto pearls with diamonds and some misc sapphire and diamond jewelry. I'm pretty much done with jewelry for her. She has everything she needs including 2.24 ct ring.

haha

Could be an intelligent hacker/thief type person sets up the site and collects information about houses that have tons of diamond jewelry in them and sells/trades it to burglars...

Sweet. So, if I am reading this correctly, no matter where the diamond was purchased, anyone who bought one within the dates specified is eligible? Because I paid close to $10k for the wife's engagement ring back in 2005.

$10k? Damn, that's like a down payment on a new $200k house around here.

I know which I'd rather spend my money on 😛

**Damn diamond marketers and women who feel embarrassed to have a "lesser ring in the company of friends**

10k is enough for a down payment on a $200k house??? Thats only 5%, I put down 20% on our house. Lower mortgage payments and a lot less interest FTW.

Anyway, its probably the worst investment to make, but I have wasted money on a lot of other stupid things, way much more of a waste than an engagement ring which gets used and looked at everyday at least by one person.

You obviously don't buy much jewelry. Precious gems are an excellent investment and Ive seen my gemstone portfolio rise in value each and every year...AND my wife gets to enjoy them also.

You call it a gemstone portfolio? hahah.

I bought probably $600 worth of diamond jewelry in that time period. I doubt it's even worth my time.

It's not worth 5 minutes give them your name, address and amount of purchase? 😕

Do I need a receipt or anything? I have an appraisal, but I dunno if I have the receipt still.

Does this apply to anyone who bought diamonds anywhere in the US during the alloted time period?

I know I don't have a receipt, I delt in cash in Jewtown, NYC... but I do have an appraisal slip from the day I bought the ring.

Update
The Fairness Hearing was held on April 14, 2008, and the Court approved the Settlement on May 27, 2008. Appeals were subsequently filed contesting final approval of the Settlement. A hearing on these appeals was held on January 28, 2010, at the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. On July 13, 2010, the appeals court sent the settlement back to a lower court for further consideration. The Court issued an order today granting the petition for rehearing en banc. The panel opinion is vacated. The court will set the matter for oral argument en banc.

Updated: Got a settlement check in the mail today.

Check amount...

drum roll please....

A whopping....

$44.54!

Yup, that's class action for you.
I had people who were affected by the bank class action and they were expecting hundreds or even thousands of dollars, and just didn't listen when I told them it would be much less. They each got between $35 an $60.
Class action is good for lawyers, that's all.

Agreed.

Heh, I was shocked by this today too. I got $76. It's been over 5 years since I submitted that claim.

There needs to be a class action against lawyers for taking advantage of uh classes... then the universe could implode when it gets settled and the money goes to?

5 years later you get $44 over a $2600 ring, this is why I just throw all the class action stuff in the trash where it belongs, what a fucking joke.

I had some stock in some company recently and got something in the mail about a class action suit. Some quick paper napkin math told me I would make a dollar or so.

I don't understand this lawsuit. People are mad because they paid too much for diamonds? Why didn't they just not buy the diamonds if they were too expensive?

You've still just got to admire one of the best marketing campaigns in modern history.

Oh yes. I guess one could actually make the argument that a lot of people really didn't have any choice. At least not if they wanted a wife and family one day.
