Did you buy a diamond between Jan 1, 1994 and March 31, 2006?

Debeers has settled a class action lawsuit. Purchasers of loose diamonds or diamond jewelry are eligible for a rebate. No receipt is needed at time of filing, but may be required if requested. This is no $20 rebate or coupon settlement, either. A $2000 diamond purchase can net you over $600. My wife's ring is 2 karats and ran me about $2600 back in 1994.

edit: link fixed.

UPDATE: Got a settlement check in the mail today.

Check amount...

drum roll please....

A whopping....

$44.54!

Sweet. So, if I am reading this correctly, no matter where the diamond was purchased, anyone who bought one within the dates specified is eligible? Because I paid close to $10k for the wife's engagement ring back in 2005.

$10k? Damn, that's like a down payment on a new $200k house around here.

I know which I'd rather spend my money on :p

**Damn diamond marketers and women who feel embarrassed to have a "lesser ring in the company of friends**

10k is enough for a down payment on a $200k house??? Thats only 5%, I put down 20% on our house. Lower mortgage payments and a lot less interest FTW.

Anyway, its probably the worst investment to make, but I have wasted money on a lot of other stupid things, way much more of a waste than an engagement ring which gets used and looked at everyday at least by one person.

I bought probably $600 worth of diamond jewelry in that time period. I doubt it's even worth my time.

yeah no kidding. they've been fleecing the public for more than 75 years!

yup, it wasn't until the mass commercialism after WWII that Tiffnay's really started pushing diamonds onto the mass public as THE engagement stone!

It'll take much more time than that to find receipts or make phone calls to get the information.

But, at this time you don't need to. They don't require a receipt.

Thanks, hope it comes :)

I need to know the amount. I don't remember purchase prices.
