Did you buy a diamond between Jan 1, 1994 and March 31, 2006?

I submitted a claim for my wife's rings but chances are we won't see much if any money. I'm sure this will eventually make national newspapers and there will be millions of claims. They have "$135,432,500 for the Consumer Subclass" minus "Attorneys? fees, cost of administering the Settlement, and other costs will be paid out of the Settlement Funds." Which probably add up to several million.
If we do see any money odds are it probably won't even be enough for lunch.

They don't, to file the claim. I hope they demand it when it comes time to write the checks. This looks really ripe for fraud.

Yes, from the information on the website, there is a cap on the amount you can receive. I could go back, but I think the rebate is limited to $640.

10k is enough for a down payment on a $200k house??? Thats only 5%, I put down 20% on our house. Lower mortgage payments and a lot less interest FTW.

Anyway, its probably the worst investment to make, but I have wasted money on a lot of other stupid things, way much more of a waste than an engagement ring which gets used and looked at everyday at least by one person.

You obviously don't buy much jewelry. Precious gems are an excellent investment and Ive seen my gemstone portfolio rise in value each and every year...AND my wife gets to enjoy them also.
 
dont get your hopes up. the settlement hasnt even been approved yet by the court.

The Court will also consider the Class lawyers? request for attorneys? fees and reimbursement of expenses.

So for all you know, that settlement could be knocked down to a couple million and you'd have just given away your personal info to one of the most unethical companies in the world
 
How many people keep receipts for >13years? Yeah, not needed for submission, etc. I know diamonds are generally pretty hefty purchases, and I actually have kept a few receipts, but... geeze.

So, regardless, I predict 13.5Million+1 people will file, therefore reducing available claims to <$10 each (from the 135Million earmarked funds) and therefore meeting the clause that they do not need to pay any out due to administration fees. I further predict I'll be getting a number of targeted advertisements now that I've submitted my claim. 🙂

Ah well, at least:
1) site looks legit... and was reported in a few news links as being the source to submit claims
2) pretty low odds that they'll revise the offer to substitute coupons or rebates on the purchase of 'new' diamonds.

Have you bought at retail and sold any for a profit? I'd be very skeptical of anyone who claims to have made money this way... while appraisals of jewelry will rise over time, the actual resale / replacement value is (supposedly) much much less.


On a side note, sorta interesting the ratio/number of 'diamond' members posting in this thread. 😛

Once the rest of country hears about this everyone will have claimed to have purchase $40,000 in jewelry during that time frame.

Waste of time.
 
Interesting..... so the fewer people file a claim, the more each person stands to get (up to $640). Hmmm.... so we should basically not send this to anyone 😉

You could have been a dick and made her give that ring back to you, law is on your side. Engagement rings are considered a conditional gift, on the condition that you actually get married.
 
Did it have to be purchased from Debeers? I've bought some diamond Jewlry from the jewelry Exchange and Zales in the past so I'm curious if I'm eligible.
 
Engagement ring, wedding wrap, earings, anniversary ring... only the diamond bracelet I bought last year isn't covered. COOL!

Somehow I think that you dont need any refunds. Btw, that's a rediculous amount. You know that the more you buy, the more you want right? It's an unending loop and your wants or unfullfillable.
 
Well, it's more like around $35k since around $15k of the 50 is for Mikimoto pearls with diamonds and some misc sapphire and diamond jewelry. I'm pretty much done with jewelry for her. She has everything she needs including 2.24 ct ring.
 
Well, I only spenk around 1k for a engagement ring and about $300 for another ring with diamonds, but a little back wont be bad. Unfortunatly, I doubt I have the recepts anymore.
